T-Shirts Update

Thank you to the many of you who have ordered T-shirts over the last few days. Just to cover a couple of things ....

1. The T-shirts are being printed over the next few days, and should be with us in Portlaoise on Friday.
2. If you have ordered t-shirts, I will text you when they arrive and arrange to give them to you at the next training session.
3. All proceeds of the t-shirts go directly back into the club, so you really do support the cause when you buy them!
4. If you would prefer to pay cash, please contact Karl by e-mail or text; specify the t-shirt you like. The handiest arrangement is simply to pay when we hand you over the shirt (saves messing around with money at training).

PS - If you haven't ordered yours yet - Click Here!

Sunday's Cycle

Depending on the numbers getting involved with Sinead, our regular cycle on Sunday may not now happen (see http://www.trilogy.ie/Chat.html for more details).  If anyone does want to go at the normal time, then please text Karl before tomorrow (when I will decide to cancel it by text).  Thanks!

CK Triathlon - Now Open

There are a few people thinking of entering the newest event on the 2007 calendar - The Caroline Kearney Memorial Triathlon.  Taking place Saturday 15 September, the event is Olympic distance (1.5km, 40km, 10km) and takes place in Mullingar.

Organised by neighbouring club Midlands TC, get your entries in asap.  As Taco has stepped down from the committee, and as all our calendar events are now closed, the race registration service is not formally available.  However, if you still have funds in your Trilogy account and you want to enter this one, contact Karl and we will arrange it asap.

Otherwise float on over to http://www.carolinekearneytriathlon.ie/ where you will find more information and a link to enter.

Website - Two New Features

Hey there everybody - look at the trilogy.ie menu!

We've got two new features - see?

The Chat facility is an open discussion page available to all members. You send a mail, it goes on the site. Simple as that. Check it out by clicking on 'Chat' above; and don't forget to register to use the service (mail Karl).

The second feature is a Shop - and on launch day, we have five new t-shirts available. There is something for everyone - upgrade your classic navy t-shirt if you have one already - or buy one if you don't. There's one just for the girls and then there are a couple that tell everyone just what tri is about - perfect!

Support your club, and wear with pride. Order straight away, we hope to have the t-shirts on your backs by Castlewellan.

Wishing Dermot the Best

All the best to Dermot O'Leary who today is heading to Bosnia for a 6-month tour of duty. Dermot has assured us that he will keep up the training and promises to 'kick everyone's ass' in 2008*.

Well Dermot, it's been good having you with us over the last three months, and we are looking forward to your return next year. Keep an eye on this site, and stay in touch. All the best from Trilogy.

Tonights cycle goes from the gym at 7pm sharp.  A couple of people training for Ironman events are starting earlier and aiming to be back to the Heritage by 7pm to pick up the rest of the group - they will more or less be heading back out as soon as they arrive - so don't be late!

The REAL Slim Shady

The Laois Voice have us covered again this week. Pick up your edition for the cut-out-and-keep picture of the Shady Mr Farrell at the recent Dunmore East Triathlon.

You can also see more photos from Dunmore , the photo album is now linked from the trilogy.ie report page for the event (link). Thanks to Mark for the pictures and report (and to Mick for helping them get online).

Also – Watch this Space over the next few days – we’ve reports and photos coming from the Half Ireman Triathlon, Groomesport – featuring three of our four IM-to-be’s - and from last weekend's TriAthlone.

Test Tri 4 - Yikes! We need help again.

Trilogy are nothing if we can't rise to meet challenges.  And next Saturday is a big one.

We are using the event to perfect the Trilogy Timing System before the Heritage Challenge in August, and so, like last month, we need a lot of help. We are looking for seven experienced time-keepers to help out - three for the paper system, three for the electronic system and a lane-counter.

This is even more critical as Mark Mac is away on the day; Karl is racing in Youghal and Taco is on holidays. It's all Willies show and he needs you!

Please get in touch with Willie before he pulls the rest of his hair out.

Note: results for the day will not be available in Café Latte - breakfast still is, though. Instead provisional results will be online Saturday evening, with confirmed results available early next week. Usually, there are no changes from provisional to confirmed results.

New Feature to Website - Members Chat

Over the coming week or so, there will be a few changes to the trilogy.ie website. From tomorrow, we will be able to take race entries for the Heritage Challenge Triathlon online, and later in the month we will be expanding this to include a shop function which will also include some new t-shirts, race-belts, race drinks and the other various items we sell through the club.

One other feature you can look forward to is a 'Chat Area' on the site. Similar to this News page, registered members will be able to post up opinions, comments, questions, etc. on racing, events and training. Other registered members will then be able reply, and all members can benefit from the posting. In effect you will be able to publish your own stuff to the club website.

Posting will be very simple - all you do is send an e-mail to a unique address (yours alone), and it posts up immediately, with your name alongside it. If interested, why not mail me karl 'at' trilogy.ie (putting in the @), and I will get back to you with more details.

Vaseline - Not good news for your wetsuit

I know a few people in the club - until recently, this included me - use Vaseline as a lubricant to prevent chafing from the neckline of their wetsuit in the water. While this does appear to work quite well, what you may not know is that Vaseline actively erodes the wetsuit material and undoes the seamwork near the neckline. I am currently replacing my wetsuit for this very reason (ask to take a look at the damage next time you see me).

So, whats the alternative? Leading manufacturers actually state that using Vaseline invalidates your warranty; in many cases the only lubricant they allow you use is a product called 'Body Glide'. You can get this in Cycle superstore and Online. (I believe Anne Summers might stock a similarly-named poduct, but that, of course, would have nothing to do with triathlon!)

Test Tri 4 This Weekend

Trilogy's fourth test triathlon of the 2007 season takes place this Saturday, 21 July.
The series is there to allow you, the members of Trilogy to measure and guide your performance over the course of the 2007 season. With your results to hand, we hope to offer you advice and support in attaining your monthly goals and ultimately meeting your personal ambitions in triathlon competition.
Please Note: This is a Trilogy Training session for race technique. All competitors must be members of Trilogy on the day, and be at least Associate Members (€5.00 annual cost) of Triathlon Ireland. Please contact Karl ASAP if you have not yet applied for TI membership - it is not too late.
The course is designed to be short, fast and consistent. Entrants will be timed and a detailed analysis of the results will be available over brunch directly after the event, and at this website later that day. Entrants will receive times and positions for their Swim (220m, or ten lengths of the pool), their transition Swim to Bike, their Cycle (13.2km), their transition cycle to bike, and their run (3.4km), together with an overall time and position.
As well as an invaluable progress tool, entrants results will be used to determine prizes for the season-end in categories including:
- Course (overall) record time - Highest ranking points (your best three times eligible) - Best Swim time - Best Cycle time - Best Run time - Best improvement over the series (overall time)
The series will be run under TI rules and conditions - i.e. as a proper race. Marshals will not be available due to limited resources, and entrants will be asked to formally register and sign a standard disclaimer. There is no entry fee for Heritage members, and the standard guest admittance charge for non-Heritage members.
A drive-through of the course will be facilitated at 7:30am by request only. It is vital that new members come to this drive-through! Please text Karl to arrange this (there will be no drive-through, if there are no texts).
The course includes 10 lengths of the Heritage pool. Transition area will be outside the gym gates. The bike course takes a turn left (towards the railway station), left again, left towards the town, out the Abbeyleix road, left at Meelick, right towards Timahoe, left across M7, straight on for Adams Garage, straight on for the Dublin Road, then left and back to the gym via the Dublin Road. Transistion 2 is in the same place as Transistion 1.
The run also takes a turn left (towards the railway station), left again, left towards the town, then right along the Mountrath Road to Kea-Lew Business park, on up to Telfords, left towards the GAA centre, then left and back to the Transistion point via Jessop Street and the cinemas.
Both the cycle route and the run route will be signposted on the morning of the triathlon.
The distances involved are 220m Swim, 13km cycle and 3km run. As this event is intended as an individual performance guide, it will be an individual event only. Entrants of all abilities and fitnesses are encouraged to enter - without doing so, Trilogy cannot offer you individual training advice and programmes.
Registration will be at 7.45am (please be on time) , with a race briefing at 8.30 in the gym lobby. The race starts promptly at 9.00am - we must free up the pool by 9.45am. Brunch afterwards is at Cafe Latte in the Dunamaise theatre, c. 11:00am.
Remember - if you arrive late, you delay the start and wipe out the benefit of everyone else arriving early!
Good Luck!

Laois Voice - We're in again

There is a report this week on the superb performance by Trilogy in Kilkee at the weekend.  Get it now!

Waterford (Dunmore East) Briefing

The Waterford Triathlon takes place this Saturday, July 7 in Dunmore East, which is eight miles or 20 minutes drive outside Waterford City.
Registration takes place at the Strand Hotel from 8am to 9.30am on the Saturday morning.

There is parking for only 100 cars at the transition area which overlooks the bay although parking in the town is as handy.

There will be two swim starts; Wave one consisting of all male participants between the ages of 20 and 39 and Wave two which heads into the water 12 minutes later consisting of all the ladies, veterans and juniors. The sea swim is 750 metres and conditions during the summer are said to be very calm. The 20 km cycle route is an out and back course on undulating but smooth roads while the six km looped run begins with a challenging climb and finishes with a gallop through the heart of Dunmore East to the finish line alongside the town park.

With bananas in hand and bottles of water to boot, results should be available at 2.30pm the same afternoon.

Trilogy are again hoping to travel in convoy so all those heading down are being asked to meet at the train station in Portlaoise at 7am. For more information consult their website at www.waterford-triathlon.com (also see the front page of TriathlonIreland.com for a race info pack to download).
