Mega Session Update - Conference Call tonight

The following people are taking part this weekend - Dermot, Trish, Karl, Sinead, Sandra, Patrick Marshal, Mark Martin, Alison and Willie.

There will be a conference call tonight to discuss logistics. If you are not on the list but thinking of coming on Saturday, please Text Karl to be included in the text for the dial-in to the conference call details.

Dublin City Triathlon

Well done to the many good performances at Dublin City Triathlon. Some mighty fine finishing times all round.

All we need now is a race report. Any volunteers?*

* This is the only race out of about 25 events in 2008 that there is no race report for. Wouldn't it be a shame to not have one?

Sponsored Swim / Mega Session

Have I any more takers for this? Dermot, Trish, Karl and (possibly) Sinead and (possibly) Willie. Remember, you can do any or all parts of the day, in fact we need a couple of extra cyclists to look after the bikes while the swimmers swim!

So come on - do the swim, do the bike, do the run, do them all.

Poster below is just for the swim. I have sponsorship cards for this - €50.00 must be raised in lieu of any entry fee.

The Heritage Challenge Triathlon (Amendment)

Please note , there has been a change to the Run Section of The Heritage Challenge Triathlon race manual.
The run (approx 5Km)will now take place on the walking path around the golf course.
The change is due to the poor road surface of the original run route.

Full details will be given during the race briefing.

Have you got your Heritage race number?

Mark has sent a text to everyone racing Saturday with their race number. If you haven't received it, then you may not be registered. Please contact me (Karl) on 086-2240115 before 9pm tonight to get registered.

Download the Heritage Challenge Race Manual

The Heritage Challenge Triathlon is this Saturday. There has been an important change to the way the race is run this year, with registration at Killenard (not Portlaoise as in previous years).

So, even if you have raced the Heritage before, please take a look at the detailed race manual available to download. Click the image below to download.

Help! (Wanted for Saturday)

Mark has been very generous in letting everyone from the club race next Saturday. This was done in the good faith that you can provide a helper on the day. If we come up with less than 30 helpers, Mark will be under pressure to ensure a good race. So please text Mark with any helpers you have, and keep an eye on here for details of Marshall assembly / briefing on race day.

Barrow Swim cancelled

The Brackens are just back from Spain, and so they probably don't know that we've had a few months rain in the last few days. But the rest of you will already know that. And for that reason tonights swim is called off. Too much flow and flooding further upstream makes things unsafe.

Enjoy the night off!

Caroline Kearney Memorial Report and Photos

Thirteen Trilogy Triathletes completed the testing Mullingar course last Saturday. Click through to read more, see the results and to get a link to the photos from the day.

Caroline Kearney 2008 Report.

If you still need gear ...

Trilogy's Club Gear will be available for sale at the Heritage Challenge Triathlon this week, including the full range of tops, Jackets and Tri-Suits. At the moment we have all sizes in stock, but this could be the last opportunity of 2008 to get gear. Also, if you have any gear you would like to change (size), then bring it along and this can be done - it goes without saying the gear you want to change must not be used!!

Standard prices apply - €40.00 for the run top and cycle top, €80.00 for the tri-suit and cycle jacket.

Anyone wishing to pre-book anything, please contact Karl and your size will be kept aside.

New Racing Opportunities in September (Juniors too)

I know that some people are keen to find a couple of races to keep them going through August and into September. Well a brand new series of small races might just be the answer. Called the '25.5 Series', each leg involves a 500m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run. They take place each Saturday in September (except for 13th) and on 4th of October in a different town - Ballinasloe, Athleague, Portunmna and Roscommon.

These races might be perfect for any of the senior members wanting to race a couple more times in 2008, or for Junior members wanting to "tri" a full race this season. Under 16's can register on the day, anyone over this age need to register in advance (and places are limited to 250).

See IrishTriathlon.com for more.

PS these guys also seem to be planning an Ironman Distance race in Connemara for 2009!

Groomsport Training: Epic Session planned!

Groomsport half Ironman distance race is now just five weeks away (yikes), and hopefully everyone is fitting in some long distance training.

I have the bones of a plan coming together which would make for a perfect final pre-taper training sessions for the big day. I am interested in hearing how many of you might be interested. Please text me if you are - this only really makes sense if we can do it as a group.

The idea is to do about 3/4s Half-IM distance by firstly taking part in a charity swim in Lough Ennell, Mullingar, then take to the road back to Portlaoise and round things off with a distance run through the town. There is even a BBQ planned thrown in to complete the day in style. The day all this can happen is Saturday 30 August.

Nore: All parts of the following is open to all members of the club.

1. 1.8km ‘Swim Across the Lake ’ – Charity Swim at Lough Ennell
2. 75km cycle back to Portlaoise from Lough Ennell via Tullamore and Portarlington
3. 15km run from town centre to Togher woods (two laps) and back via Meelick
The Heritage Leisure Centre BBQ – Sky Venue, Portlaoise (time tbc, but evening til late)

The swim starts at 2pm, and the whole day will probably run until 7pm or so. There will be paced groups, and (if necessary) shorter courses for people not going to Groomsport, but interested in a good ole long session. Also, anyone who wants to just do the swim, for example, or the bike, or two parts of the three, is more than welcome to do so (remember, we need numbers).

So what’s involved? Well, to do the swim part you must raise at least €50.00 in sponsorship (or sponsor yourself; this is 100% for charity). We’ll also need to get the thinking caps on about the best way to pool our travel to Mullingar. Also, non-Heritage members will need to pay for the BBQ and pair up with Heritage members.

What do you think? Text Karl.

Table Quiz

Hi All,
At our last committee meeting of Trilogy we decided that the table quiz would be put back to the end of Sept early October. This was because of the very busy schedule in August with 4 triathlons and also our test tri. We will set a date at the next committee meeting and give everyone one plenty of notice and again our apologies.
