Triathlon Ireland AGM

Guys,

The Triathlon Ireland AGM is being held tomorrow in the Heritage Hotel. It is in our interests to have as many members there as possible so we can have a say in how the triathlons will be run in the future. It is on from 11am, so if you can, please do so and give your support.

Thanks,

The Committee.

Kilkee Hell of the West

Guys,

The Hell of the West opened last Monday, unfortunately we missed our slots, as all 200 places went in 12 minutes, and we were registering members for Joey Hannan at the same time. It opens again on the 29th March. We need to get all members doing this one to let me know so we can try to get all members registered.

Please email me with your details, or text me with YES and NAME.

Roy.

The Triathlon Ireland AGM

Just a reminder that the Triathlon Ireland AGM is on tomorrow in Portlaoise (Heritage Hotel). The meeting starts 11am and should be over by 2pm, you can pop in and out as available. As the meeting is in Portlaoise, it would be good if a few local faces could be there for the meeting.

The meeting is a good way to hear about developments in the sport, see where the sport is going next year, and your chance to vote. One of the big votes (for President) is being contested for the first time in a number of years.

Jag Gunawardana (current president) has recently outlined some plans to Trilogy's committee for the clubs development over the next year, these plans would benefit every member and the club. The other candidate (Dessie McHenry) is an establshed triathlete, with a fantastice level of success at home and abroad. I know little about his policies, and how they will impact Trilogy - but I expect Dessie will be there tomorrow to outline them to us.

The vote for President is on around 1:30 - if you can make it. As the kids on MTV say "use your vote".

You can see more on Triathlon Ireland's own site.

TI Dinner Tickets

I have the tickets for Saturday night (except yours Trish). The evening starts at 7pm (drinks reception) - see you there.

Well done Karen, Shane & Stevie

Shane Delaney, Stephen O'Toole amd Karen Robinson proudly represented the club at last weekends Naas Duathlon 2 at Punchestown.

Karen Robinson is one of our new members, and while you might not know it now, its a name that will surely be remembered throughout the tri season. The Naas Wheelworx duathlon was her first taste of the sport, a feat she marked by coming in 5th woman overall and also posted the fastest bike split on the day out of all the women who competed (36:21). Not bad at all for a girl who had a broken (yes, that's right) back just before Christmas.

The two Trilogy lads had a very close race between them, Stephen edging Shane on the bike, Shane passing Stephen and getting back to t2 first, before Stephen drew from a deep well of grit to beat Shane in the second run. Coming 20th and 21st in a large field is a great achievement, and bodes well for a great season ahead. .

While Stephen is well known for his achievements in the sport, Shane is a relative newcomer and is competing against guys with years more experience. With his swim coming good, his bike very powerful and his run ever-strong, Stephen and rest of us may keep an eye out for Delaney this year.

I just hope they're not getting only suntans in Spain this week!

Unusual Event in Durrow

Alison has sent me on details of an interesting little duathlon event in a couple of weeks time. The event is unusual in two ways - firstly, its an Xterra or Off-road event and secondly, its in Laois but not being organised by Trilogy.

The event is a casual race over 1 mile (run), 5 miles (mountain bike) and 3 miles (run), all in and around the Leafy Loop Woods, Durrow. Doesn't it sounds an idyllic place!

You will need a mountain bike, an old pair of runners and (of course) your helmet to take part. After you cross the finish line, there will be showers, soup and sandwiches in Hogans bar.

The race is on Saturday 7 March, and the organiser - Bernard Connolly (087 9600180)of Tri Carrick - asks that you confirm your interest by text before 2 March. Entry is a recession-friendly €10.00, which includes the race, showers and lunch.

The event is also open to Juniors.

Portlaoise Try-athlon - its full

Portlaoise Try-athlon is officially full. We have 213 people entered to race, way above our initial estimate of 150 entrants. We cannot take another single person.

I know that the race has attracted a huge amount of new members, so it is important that we remember the club still offers plenty even though the 11 April race is closed.

There are 12 test events, the Heritage Challenge, The Junior Aquathon, TriAthy (all in Laois, or very close by) and 10 other races we are visiting as a club around the country this year.

Ya see - Lots of variety & choice!

Anyone waiting on Calendars?

I have a new batch of calendars if anyone missed out last time. Also, if you paid for a calendar and not received one, please get in touch and I will keep it for you.

Joey Hannon

Guys,

The Joey Hannon Tri, Olympic and Sprint is on the 5th May. It opens for registration on the 23 Feb. Anyone interested in doing it please reply to the text sent to you by Wednesday 18th at 5pm, or if you did not get a text, send me a text with YES and your name to me on 0872936215 . It takes place in the UL campus, in the 50m pool, and last year was well run and was enjoyed by all who did it. Details of the event are here. (Last year the sprint swim was only 500m, so it is a good one for the beginners)

There is no cost as yet, but it seems that the cost of all the Tri's seem to up on last year, so the €200 may only be enough for 4/5 events.

Heres to another successful season.

Roy.

You wait years for one ... then along comes five

Last year Stephen O'Toole made history by being the first member of Trilogy to take a national medal at the 2007 TI awards dinner.

This year, Trilogy has won an impressive five medals, three in the Premier League and two for the Long Distance Championship race (Groomsport).

So at this years bash - on 28 February at the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise - Trish Nicholls, Eimear Mathews, Mary Fingleton and Stephen O'Toole will stand up and collect their medals.

The Annual TI dinner is a blacktie dinner / ball and is always a great bit of fun.Its not always in Portlaoise, though, so this is a great chance to enjoy the night and still make it back your own bed.

We are booking tables for Trilogy this weekend, so if you would like to be at one, then please text Karl by Sunday. Tickets cost €55.00 each.
