A Family Day Out, but help needed!

Laois Sports Partnership are running a cycling and walking event suitable for all ages in Emo Court on Sunday, 4th October at 10:30am. The event is to mark National Trails Day. The event is free and will entail a short cycle loop for kids, a longer one for adults and a walking trail. No experience or off road skills required but a mountain bike would be in order for the day - or just walk! The event will end at 1:00pm and they are looking for a few volunteers to marshal the turn points, etc. The event will recieve the support of Trilogy, the Midlands Inclusive Cycling Club, the Laois Cycling Club and Cullo(down)hill Mountain Biking Club.

Hope you can support this fun, free event and get the kids out! Let me know if you are happy to marshall, please.

Budapest - more good news

Good news! TI have changed their selection criteria for Age Group racing from 2010 onwards. From now on, you no longer need to be a full Irish Citizen, you can race for Ireland if you can prove residency. This basically comes down to an ESB bill or equivalent in your own name.

Cool for anyone waiting on an Irish Passport.

A message from Finn Ryan....

Hey dudes,

As most of you are aware I have organised Laois Winter Wonderland in Clonageera House, Durrow with two of my colleagues from Portlaoise Hospital for the past four years. We have run this event in association with The Bubble Gum Club. This year, due to financial constraints The Bubble Gum Club has postponed several events. Hence we have formed The Make Believers to preserve Winter Wonderland. We work with staff on the paediatric wards of hospitals in Portlaoise, Crumlin, Limerick, Kilkenny, Clonmel & Ballinasloe as well as The Central Remedial Clinic to identify children who are coping with terminal & long-term illness, social disadvantage & emotional trauma. This year Jack & Jill & Anam Cara (a charity established to support families after the death of a child) will also nominate families.

In our start-up year we need to raise almost €45,000, which is why we are thrilled that Easy Riders have chosen us as their beneficiary charity this year. The Easy Riders are a group from Rathdowney who select a different charity every year to fundraise for. They hope to raise €20,000 from their cycle on September 12th & 13th as well as their Gala Ball in The Heritage, Portlaoise on Saturday October 3rd. Tickets are €60 each & tables can accommodate 10, 11 or 12 guests.

I have secured the party animals ie: McKanns, Fitzpatricks, Marshalls (they are due a pregnancy..) & Furneys so are you up for it? Give me a buzz if you are 086 3898691.

Thanks,

Finn

Fancy a run!

Guys,

The Kilkenny Half Marathon and 10 km will be held on Sunday the 20th September, starting at 11 am. The courses take in both Kilkenny city and the surrounding countryside. Entry is online here, but also available on the day (register between 8-9.30am). On the day entries cannot be guaranteed race t-shirts however so it is best to enter online before the online deadline of 12 noon on the 14th September. Both courses are accurately measured. Timing chips will be used. There will be water stations along the courses (water bottles as opposed to flimsy cups). Race medal and goody bag also.
The courses can be checked out here and further information is on the events facebook page (link off runireland)

If anyone has any questions, please contact Colin Pollock on 087 7479150.

Photo Galleries Galore

It's September, and the triathlon season is unbelievably coming to a close again. Over the next few days I will be featuring a few photo galleries from the season.

The first of these is from Susan Wall, who until last week kept these beautiful shots of Dunmore East to herself. Enjoy these with thanks to Susan, and remember to check back over the next few day for more shots.
