TriAthy Volunteering Updates

Check out the side panel of News and of Chat. There is a new graphic that updates members on where the club is with TriAthy Marshals.

To date there has been a good response, but as you can see over half the club have yet to register to help. Help is badly needed, we are short on both days and a good bit off our money target.

If you haven't done so, please stick your name down to help using the link above, or click the graphic.

I'll update the side panel in a few more days time.

Race Report from Test Tri 1 **Link added!**

Niall Kavanagh has sent me a great report from Saturday's race. Grab a cuppa and enjoy, it is well worth a read whether you took part or not.

Race Reporters Wanted

You've all heard of New Year resolutions? Well here is a New Season resolution. Lets have a race report for every race we do as a club in 2010. They are great to read, and invaluable in future years for referring back to.

So ... I need one of the four racers in North Tipp last week to send me a few lines. 2-3 paragraphs about how you found the day would be great! E-mail, word, crayon, pencil or pen, send it to me anyway you like!

Stephen, Roy, Denise, Stephanie - how about it?

Test Tri 1 results

Well done to everyone today, especially the 6 first timers - Stephanie, Deirdre, Dave, Brian, Alan and Declan, and to our two prodigal triathletes - Mark and Deirdre - it was fantastic to see you both back in action!

The help was also fantastic today - 12 people were on hand to handle the huge number of participants and as a result the safety, timing and racing was perfect. All helpers appear on the ranking sheet, and the points you earn by helping are up to 350, so if I missed anyone, please let me know.

Niall Kavanagh is writing a full report, and I think I spied a photographer who might get in touch with me (karl@trilogy.ie).

In the meantime, check out the 2010 Test Tri 1 Results.

How Test Series Ranking Works

With the first Test Tri under our belt, and the first test duathlon coming up, I think its useful to quickly explain how ranking in both of the test series is done (both are calculated in exactly the same way).

Test Triathlon 1 - 2 Days Away!

The first test tri of the season is almost upon us. If you are new to the club, the test triathlon is a race simulation training session that includes a 220m swim, 13km bike and a 3.6km run.

We run it six times a season, and each time you race you earn points based on how you finish against other ladies / men / juniors. You also get points for appearances and PBs and the points form a league that becomes quite competitive as the season goes on. It is also a great way to see how well you are getting on through the season.

The time line for Saturday is as follows:

7:30am - Sign-on / Set-up at heritage gym
8:15am - closing of sign-on (no late entries)
8:20am - Race Briefing
8:30am - First wave off
9:00am - Pool Clear
10:00am - All finished - Shower & head to Cafe Latte!
11:00am - Provisional results announced in Cafe Latte
Evening - Final results & points online

Given the numbers attending, over 20, we will be manually timing. Murt Keane is in charge of Test Tri 1. Remember, non Heritage members have to pay €10 to the gym to use the pool and showers.

I have some useful links below, including last years results and route guides, but before that some important information.

1. You must pre-register. Do this by going into your members section and selecting the Test Tri event of your choice. If Test Tri 1 doesn't appear you have already entered - confirm by checking your Member History.
2. Everyone is expected to help at one test tri in the season - you can select yours in your membership profile. Please keep this up to date as the club relies on people keeping their dates to help.
3. Finally, you must be a member of Triathlon Ireland to take part. We will be checking who is and who isn't before Saturday - please buy your membership before tomorrow evening if you haven't already. Associate Membership (€5) is sufficient.

Thanks to Roy for the route maps below:

TriAthlone - Marshall Accomodation

Just confirming to you that the committee approved a plan to cover the costs of accomodation for anyone assisting at the European Championships in Athlone.

The European Championships is a major event, something that might come along once every 20 years, and Trilogy Triathlon are proud to be associated with it. When the cream of Europe come to battle it out on the streets of Athlone, we will have 30 marsalls proudly policing the run route.

The accomodation is available from Thursday to Sunday, allowing anyone marshalling to benefit from all of the fringe activities - Expo, Concerts, the Festival and of course their own ETU Age Group or National Series triAthlone race.

The costs of the accomodation will be met by Trilogy Triathlon, using some of the funds from TriTAthy 2010. Accomodation will be at the college in Athlone, about a mile from the centre of Athlone.

Numbers and nights will need to be confirmed by the end of May.
