As promised, here are two reports from last weekends racing at Groomsport. Both reports are excellent and well worth a read. Results appear in both reports, and I am working on getting some photos (supporters - do you have any!)

Congrats to all who took part and all who supported.

New Team Triathlon - Selection Criteria

In relation to the Team Triathlon event, the club is now entered in the event.

The club will select the team to represent us on the following criteria:

Eligibility:
  • Completed 3 events in Test Triathlon Series

  • 2011 Triathlon Ireland Member

Selection Criteria (3 places each, male and female)
  • Place 1 (Racing): Junior Winner of Test Triathlon Series 2011

  • Place 2 (Racing): Senior Winner of Test Triathlon Series 2011

  • Place 3 (Support): Runner-up, Test Triathlon Series 2011

The above members will be invited to take their place on the team and contacted to check their availability to race. If not available to race, or if for any other reason the above criteria do not produce a team of 3 male and 3 female, remaining positions will then be offered according to overal rank in the 2011 Test Triathlon Series. Overall rank will also determine position in the team.

The team must be finalised by 15 September. The support position will act as a substitute in the event that a racing member withdraws due to injury before the race.

Once the team is finalised, there will be a meeting to discuss race strategy and to select a team captain. Arrangements will also be made to obtain suitable bikes for the mountain bike course.

Ballyhoura Blitz and Club day out

Sorry about little updates, have been busy attending weddings. We have initial interest of 30 club members for heading to Ballyhoura on Saturday 27th August, however as there is a single track championship on the 27th the trail will be very busy. I'm proposing that we reschedule for the Saturday 24th September as this is post all tri events.

Plan is to leave Portlaoise at 8am, car pool where possible. Arrive in Glenosheen around 10am. Hopefully be on trail by 11am. Couple of hours on the trail, plenty of trails to choose from, check out http://www.ballyhouracountry.com/destinations/8-ardpatrick/experiences/9-ballyhoura-mountain-bike-trails

Hopefully finish up around 2pm back to Portlaoise around 5pm. Some rest and on to Square bar for 9pm.

Cost: €30 for bike rental and €5 for car park.

Can you email me at patrick@trilogy.ie if this date suits or text me if you have my number.

Triathlon Team Event - 25 September

TI have announced an exciting new event for 2011 - a Team Triathlon event. Team Triathlon is a new format for our sport, involving 4 team members who each race a short-distance triathlon, tagging the next member who does the same course, with the winning team being the one whose fourth member finishes first. Each team has 2 female and 2 male members.

You might have seen Team GB running away with the win over the weekend, that event and this one from TI is all part of a plan to get the format to the Olympics in 2016.

TI's event takes place on 25 September in Loughgall Country Park, Co Armagh and comprises a 400m swim, 6km mountain bike and a 2km run. Up against us will be 29 other clubs vying for the title of Irelands first Team Triathlon winners.

The event is free, but each club can only enter one team. The team will comprise 3 female and 3 male members, with 2 of each male and female to race on the day, the other 2 members are support crew.

I am finising the criteria for selection, but it will be based on finishing position in the 2011 Test Triathlon Series (More on this in the next few days).

For now, see the information on Triathlon Ireland

Race Report: Brian Boru Trathlon

Have a read of Alasdair McCann's race report from Brian Boru, which took place on 6 August. It's Alasdairs first race report, and from reading it, it sounds like Brian Boru is the Hell of the West at sprint distance!

Club day out.

Hi, we are hoping to organise a club day out for the last weekend on August. We are looking for numbers of people that maybe interested in a fun morning/afternoon of mountain biking in Ballyhoura http://www.ballyhouramtb.com/, followed by some food and possibly a night on the town in Portlaoise, if the bodies survive the day.

So please fill out the survey before the 8th August. We can then see if there is a enough interest to organise a bus. If you don't feel like biking then just put your name down for the trip, a hike could alternatively be arranged and if you do feel like biking then you can hire a bike on the day or if you are so inclined bring your own bike.
