TriAthy Final Itineraries

Hi all, please see the link below for your FINAL itinerary for TriAthy. There will be NO CHANGE to these.

64 people have had their itineraries changed in some way - often very slightly. Important to note that your itinerary may well have changed even if you yourself did not request a change (knock-on effect).

Please liaise directly with your lead marshals in relation to any additional / changed availability.

Link to FINAL Itineraries

Things are shaping up for a magnificent weekend, we have just creeped over 2,000 entrants, we have all the best racers in the country competing for over €7,000 in prizes, we have a rake of notable competitors for you to look out for, and it looks like we may even have the weather.

Please plan for hot conditions, apply sunscreen and take water with you if you are going out on the course.

The final marshal briefing is on tonight; if you are marshalling anywhere on the course (except for registration), and you weren't at the weekend briefing, then please attend tonight, 8pm, Clanard Court Hotel.

Test Aquathon Results

Our First Test Aquathon was held in the glorious sunshine in Athy on Sunday. This involved a mass start, with a 600m swim (300m upstream, around a buoy and then 300m downstream) followed by a 3km run. . Well done to those competed and thanks for the feedback which was all positive. Looking forward to a bigger crowd at our next test aquathon on 11th July. Link to Results of Test Aquathon 1.

Swim Athy

Swim Athy is on this Sunday before our Aquathon and they need 5 marshals from 10am to approx 12.30/1pm.

If you are available can you please txt me on 0863866046. Thank you - Trish

Test Aquathon 1

Hi Guys, Our first Aquathon takes place in Athy on Sunday at 12.30 after SwimAthy. You will receive a text on Thursday and should reply in the usual way by text by Friday 6pm. Race will consist of a 600m swim in the tropical waters of the Barrow followed by a leisurely run along the banks for 3k. If the weather is good then bring a picnic. Helpers will be required for SwimAthy also if you are available.

Club Gear

Hi Guys, We are currently looking at improving our existing gear. The Jerseys, Jackets and T Shirts are a good quality but the Trisuits have room for improvement. We are talking with Champion Systems and Base2Race at present. One of our members has tried the Base2Race suit and has reported back that the suit is comfortable and a better quality than the existing suit. That suit was a sample and it remains to be seen whether they can match the club colours and produce a  suit identical  or close to the existing suit in terms of colours, club logo and design. We wish to ensure that any new trisuit will match up with the existing distinctive trilogy gear. We are also looking into gilets, beanies and hoodies as a lot of members have expressed an interest in these items. If you have any ideas or suggestions then please let myself or Trish know.

TriAthy Updates

Just a quick note (in Seamus absence) to say that the club has pulled together a fantastic team of marshals for TriAthy 2012. We are now fully resourced for Saturday, and very close to being so for Sunday.

If anyone can help with the last few positions on Sunday, then please complete the survey today or text details to 085-1521988.

We are also looking for a few more hands on deck for Friday night registration and Friday night set-up. Any help is appreciated and the club will receive funds in the same way for these times as for race days.

Final notice is that we will be holding Marshal briefings in both Portlaoise and Athy next week. Details are as follows:

Portlaoise: Killeshin Hotel, Monday 28 May, 8pm (followed by a drink in the bar) Athy: Clanard Court Hotel, Wednesday 30 May, 8pm (followed by a drink in the bar)

Just to be clear - both sessions are exactly the same,
you do not need to attend both
(either is fine).

Lost Sheep & Other News

Hi guys,

Tomorrow evening at 8pm is the second and final chance to enter The Lost Sheep. The first time this race opened it sold out reasonably quickly. So don't hang around on this one if you want to race and haven't already signed up to do so. We are repeating the same bit of info below as per the last time we mentioned these dates in case anyone missed it back then.

The “Lost Sheep” Kenmare, National Series - Middle Distance Triathlon, will take place on Saturday Sept 8th.

The Lost Sheep Triathlon has since its inception in 2003 gained a reputation both nationally and internationally as one of the toughest middle distance races on the triathlon circuit. Traditionally staged in September each year the event starts with a 1900m swim in the scenic Kenmare Bay followed by an 83km cycle which takes competitors over two category one climbs on the Healy and Caha passes and finishes after an undulating 21km run mostly on quiet country roads close to the picturesque town of Kenmare.

Now if all that hasn’t put you off… AND I know we have some members wanting to take this one on already, this race opens for the entry of 150 places at 8am tomorrow morning. A second opening for a further 150 places will take place on Wed 23rd May at 8pm. To enter, please click here: https://www.triathlonireland-newserver.com/local-races.html

TRI ATHY:

As Tri Athy looms ever closer  you will mostly be aware that we are still short on numbers to help out on the Sunday. There has to be someone in your life who complains of being bored or never having anything to do... We have faith that you can come up with some great suggestions for the coming bank hol!!! Marshaling is a GREAT way to meet new people you know!!! Register your help HERE.

TRAINING:

We think you'll all agree, the summer training program has gotten off to a great start. Denise has put together a very comprehensive program with lots of help. Thank you to those of you who filled out the survey and in so doing helping her to cater for as many of you as possible. I know there are changes planned and unplanned all the time, so be sure to keep an eye on the posts and the calendar. It's been brilliant seeing so many new & beginner triathletes attending these sessions too. We know the water has been cold, but please do try to make the open water training. These are absolutely brilliant for getting you ready for those big races.

TRILOGY GOSSIP & BOOZE NIGHT:

Thanks to everyone who turned up for this night out last Friday night. It was great to see so many faces & especially to get to meet and chat with quite a few of the new club members. Congratulations again to
Áine for sneaking the prize out from under Trish's nose. Thank you all again for a great night out. The thinking caps are already on regarding our next club social gathering. WATCH THIS SPACE!!!

UPCOMING RACES:

Pay special attention to our upcoming races here below. Swim Athy is just around the corner. And you will note that our very first Test Aquathon is to be held that same day.
Quoting Denise's calendar entry, "This is our first club Test Aquathon series and the first race of this series. We hope members will give us their time to help out at Swim Athy and then take to the water themselves to take part is this club race. Start Emily Square and swim 300m upstream and return to transition at Pontoon. 3km run to follow out by the bank of the Barrow."
There's an exciting day all round in store for us this Sunday 27th.

May 27th:           Swim Athy
May 27th:           Test Aquathon 1 (Our first ever)
June 2nd & 3rd:  Tri Athy
June 9th:              Crooked Lake - NS Sprint in Newry (Race closed for entry)
June 16th:            Hook or by Crook - NS Sprint in Dunmore East (Still open on TI, less than 10 places left)

 https://www.triathlonireland-newserver.com/local-races.html
June 23rd:           Hell of the West - NS Olympic Kilkee (Race closed for entry)
June 30th:           Test Triathlon 3

Brian Boru, (Our Weekend Away) Carrick on Suir & Groomsport remain open for entries on TI
Caroline Kearney is now closed.

It's not too late to join us for our club weekend away. We have time to organise accommodation still and the race is still open for entry on Triathlon Ireland. If anyone has any questions about this (or anything else  mentioned) pop me an email to helena@trilogy.ie Having been on our club weekend away I can tell you it is usually a great weekend, enjoyed by all. You don't want to be hearing all the gossip afterwards and wishing you had been there.

Groomsport has been attracting a lot of interest within the club again this year. If you were thinking of trying the half ironman distance this is a great race to do. It starts off with a really nice two loop sea swim within the shelter of the bay totaling 1.9k in distance. Most of us were swimming more than that in the pool at our training sessions on an average Thursday night. It has a reasonably flat cycle course consisting of 3 x 30k loops making up 90k, much of which runs along the coast with fantastic views, and finishes with an interesting run over roads, small sand dunes and along the beach front. Last year it was really well run with no end of goodies at various stations around the course, and no end of Trilogy support for those who entered too despite it being held about as far north as you can go. If you're making excuses 'not' to do it, then perhaps you might consider doing it as part of a relay team? I know Trish for one might be looking for a runner to do it with her!! What was that excuse again???

On another note, check out this website for more information on Tri Grand Prix a sprint distance Triathlon planned for Kilkenny in July. http://trigrandprix.com/

Tri Suits

Some good feedback on the photos on Facebook. The design is not set in stone yet so can take comments into account before Order.
B2R will give us samples in different Sizes - this way you can try them on and we could order with your name on at no extra cost.
Would anyone be able to collect from them: Exit 10 Ballymount just off M50 - if so give me a ring on 0863866046. Thanks Trish

Hi all,

There is a bit of a glitch in the texts for TriAthy that affects either O2 or 086 numbers. So if you have either an O2 number or an 086 number - your reply to my TriAthy text was not received.
I'd appreciate it if you could resend your response to 085 1521988.

TriAthy - HELP

Hi all,
Here is the story so far regarding TryAthy Marshals
  • We need 120 people on Saturday and we have 64 signed up.
  • We need 80 people for Sunday and we have 52 signed up
  • We have had no response from 31 members yet. This is not acceptable.
  • We have 13 members racing, 5 who have provided 2 or more marhsals and 8 who have until 25th of May to provide two marshals each.
Later this week, I will publish a list of all members and show where they have committed to helping. This will also identify members who have not committed to helping yet. Please sign up at this link today

As you can see even if we get all members to commit to help we still won't reach the required numbers.

What can you do to help?
a) if you have only committed to helping on one day please try to help on the other day also
b) talk to other members and make sure everyone you know has signed up
c) talk to friends, colleagues, family and ask them to help out for six hours on Sat.

Thanks

TriAthy Marshals

Hi Everyone,
Firstly, thanks to everyone who has signed up to marhsal for TriAthy already.
However, we have a long long way to go still. So if you have not signed up yet then please do so this weekend - just follow this link.
If you have signed up for only one day then please consider helping out on the other day. We need absolutely everyone we can get.
A number of members are planning to race. The rule is that you need to provide two marshals on the day you are racing and also marshal on the other day. Some members have already provided details of their 2 (or more) marshals - so thanks to those who have done that.  For those that have not done so yet, we need details of your marshals before 25th May. If you have entered the race and you cannot provide marhsals then please let me know and we will arrange for you to be removed from the race.

Test Triathlon 2 Results

Hi Everyone,
Test Tri 2 test results are no up on the reports site http://www.trilogy.ie/ResultsReports2012.html
There are a couple of issues with the points and the PB scores in particular which we will sort out.
If there is an Excel guru in the club who would be able to help out and streamline the scoring sheet then please let me know.

TriAthy 2012

As the 2012 racing season kicks off, we are starting to prepare for TriAthy. The 2012 event on 2/3 June incorporates 4 race distances - the traditional Olympic and Sprint events, the Try-distance event and the increasingly popular long distance (Double Olympic) Event.

Join the Marshall List now

Trilogy Triathlon are providing marshals for the event, and so we are looking to our members to make the event a success again in 2012. With Saturday 4 June being the biggest day for racing, with two separate sessions, we will be looking for about 120 people to cover all points through the day. On Sunday, racing will finish earlier, and we need about 80 to cover that day.

All members are expected to marshal the event, and we also ask that you bring along any additional help you can muster up. Members who wish to race need to provide 2 marshals on the day they are racing and need to marshal themselves on the other day.

Remember this is our one fundraiser for the year and is what pays for all the activities of the club. We are unique in that we do not charge membership fees. Each marshal supplied by the club brings additional money to the club, and this money is used entirely for members’ benefits - like subsidised training, coaching, discount club gear, free events like the Test Series, trips away, social activities, right down to the website and text service. Please volunteer now and also enlist any friends, family and colleagues who are willing to help out.

The 9 O'Clock News (at 10)

TEST TRIATHLON 2: You have probably replied to the texts by now and are helping out or racing at our second Test Triathlon this season on Saturday. Good luck to everyone. Remember that with the new handicap system we're trialing for this, everyone should have a fair chance at being able to be placed regardless of ability or experience. Here's hoping the weather holds up.

TEST AQUATHON 1: Mr William Fitzpatrick asked us to remind people that the first of our new test series, Test Aquathon 1, will take place in a few weeks time on Sunday 27th May after Swim Athy. Mark this day free on your calendar and be sure to be there. You know the first one will have to be a special occasion. We MAY have to organise a little tea party of some description afterwards. Ideas?

A FREE RIDE: It's daylight until after 9pm now. And it even looks like the weather has finally realised it's MAY!! This can only mean that summer training will kick off soon. Denise has updated the training calendar and there will be a survey to respond to shortly so be sure to check by here to answer it and have your say. In the mean time We've spoken to Mark at Portlaoise Leisure Centre and talked him into giving Trilogy a free slot trialing their new spinning studio. This is a one off, FREE trial event to be held at 8pm on Wednesday night coming. Places are limited to this event. So email helena@trilogy.ie to secure your place. Don't forget to say a special thank you to Mark & his crew for giving us this opportunity on your way out.

GIRLS NIGHT OUT: The Girls Night Out has been attracting a bit of interest. Oddly enough it would appear to be the boys we're hearing the most noise from!! Just in case you missed it, pop over to the chat page to see the details. You can log in on the right to book your place. There will be a small competition running to win your place at the table in the coming days. Watch this space!!!

UPCOMING RACES:

Test Tri 2

Hi Everyone,
Test Tri 2 is this Saturday. All members will receive a text from an 086 number this evening. To register to help or race please respond to this number (and this number only) by 9pm Thursday evening.
I will then post a list of provisional entries up here on Friday morning and will finalise the entry list on Friday afternoon.
Thanks.

Test Tri Handicap Competition

As we get ready for Test Tri 2 this weekend, we just want to make everyone aware of the Handicap Competition that we are introducing this year. The aim is to have a competition that every member of the club can compete for where participation and continuous improvement are rewarded. This is how it will work
  • The key factor in determining your handicap is the difference between your time and the winner’s time. We have calculated this for the 2011 test tri series and worked out an average handicap for everyone who raced last year.
  • You score points (in minutes and seconds) by beating you're handicap. So for example lets say your average (time behind the winner) from last year was 3 mins and in TT1 you finish 2 mins 30 secs behind the winner then you score 30 seconds in that race as you beat your handicap by 30 secs.
  • If you don't beat your handicap (3 mins) then you don't score.
  • The handicap is adjusted after the race by half of your score in that race. So in the example above your 3min handicap would reduce by half of your score of 30 secs to 2min45sec. This is then your handicap for the next race.
  • Your handicap will also be adjusted upwards. So if your handicap is 3 mins and you finish 4 min behind the winner then your handicap is increased by half of the 1 min you finished behind the winner to 3mins 30 secs for the next race.
  • New members or those who did not race in 2011 are assigned a handicap after the first race equal to the difference between their time and the winners time in that race.
  • New members or those who did not race in 2011, in their first race are given a score equal to the average of everyone else’s (those with handicaps) scores in that race.
  • Volunteers/Helpers are also given a score equal to the average of everyone else’s (those with handicaps) scores in that race.

Hope that makes sense. We will put the handicap and scores from Test Tri 1 up on results spreadsheet and that should help explain and bring this to life. Any questions then let me know seamus@trilogy.ie
