We still have a considerable number of members who have not submitted their TI numbers to me. We allowed some members partake in the Duathlon last Saturday without TI membership. This will NOT happen again. NO TI NUMBER, NO RACE OR CYCLE TRAINING!

Also, while on the subject of the bike, NO HELMET, NO CYCLE!

For a list of members and their status, see here.

Another Spanner in the Spokes

What can I say? This National Series business is proving more and more of a headache!

My mistake entirely, but I just got a tip-off today from Patrick Marshall that SAlmon Run / Ballina is not in fact in the National Series 2009 (I confirmed with the race director later that it has no chance of becoming part of it either).

As a result, the Salmon Run can be taken off your calendar for now.

So, what are your options now?

Well, there are still 9 NS races we are going to, 5 Olympic, 3 sprint and 1 Half-Ironman. So if you pick 3 of the 5 Olympic, 2 of the 3 Sprint and any other race (Olympic, Sprint or Half Ironman), then you have your 6 races.

Alternatively you can look for an extra sprint race, but there really is not much option there - see below for the NS Sprint races we are not going to.

Mullaghmore - Clashes with Dunmore East, King of the Hill - Same Day as Carna, Crooked Lake Triathlon - Same Day as Junior Aquathon, Northwest Sprint Triathlon - On 24 May, Valentia Island Triathlon - Closed

Finally, the committee will need to decide what to do with the weekend away (seeing as Ballina is now off).

Another Calendar Change

We have also scrapped the Schull triathlon, on the weekend of the 5/6/7 June. As Karl said, we are moving it to the Salmon Run Tri in Ballina on the 10/11/12 July. We had our weekend away there last year, and it was a great success.

Roy.

Changes for your Wall Calendar

Following last nights meeting, there are a few small changes to make to your calendar:

1. Scratch Out Tri Carrick on Sun 12 July & replace with Salmon Run on Sat 11 July
2. Scratch Out The Childrens Duathlon on Sat 18 July & replace with Triathlone (same day)
3. Cross out Mourne on Saturday 1 August and add in Dublin City tri on Sunday 30 August

Mark McManus will come back to us with a new date for the Childrens Duathlon. Also, please note that Ballina / Salmon Run on 11 July is our weekend away. Triona Timmons will investigate accommodation and advise you all via this site.

Duathlon 1 Results

Here are the results from Saturdays Test Duathlon. A huge big thank you to Terry Wearen who oversaw the whole operation, and then co-ordinated the results. And well done to the 25 or so participants - it bodes well for an interesting and competitive season.

Now, one last thing. I need a reporter from the day, just a few lines which I will then produce a race report from. C'mon, now hands up who wants to help me! karl@trilogy.ie.

Club Meeting

Guys,

There is a club meeting on Monday next, 23rd at 8pm in the Heritage.

We will be discussing the following (and more):
  • Race Calendar
  • Trilogy Events
  • Summer Training
It is in the interests of all members to attend, after all, it is your club.

Roy.

Monday Night 23 March - Club meeting

There will be a club meeting next Monday 23 March at the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise. The meeting is at 8pm, the normal Monday night run will go ahead from the usual place but at the earlier time of 6:30pm.

It would be very encouraging for the committee to see as many members there as possible.

The agenda for the evening includes details of TriAthy, details of the new season National Series and proposals for changing our races (some of the races we picked have not made the national series). There will also be details of how to qualify to represent Ireland when the European Age Group Champs come to Athlone in 2010.

The meeting will be very beneficial for new members, and for old members, and we will be having a quick drink afterwards, so its a great way to socialise after all our hard training this Winter.

TriAthy is vitally important for the club, and is our major source of funds. The meeting will include details of how you can volunteer and still race, and about the much improved volunteer package for this year.

Trilogy's Five Medals

While we've kept it quiet til now, I'd like to do a bit of Shouting!

Last weekend, Trilogy Triathlon picked up five - yes, 5, medals at the TI Awards ball in the Heritage Hotel. A huge round of applause sounded out for both Trish Nicholls and Mary Fingleton, who claimed their medals from TI President Jag Gunawardana and Olympian Emma Davis. Trish made the journey to the podium twice, once to pick up a Championship race medal and once to receive National Series Gold, the clubs first.

Eimear Mathwes and Stephen O'Toole, not at the event in person, also won a medal each.

Well done to all four medal winners - you are doing your club proud, and you are an inspiration to the rest of us to strive for our best in 2009.

There are some photos of the event too. Click on Trish's acceptance photo below to open the album.

Trilogy's Second Winter Training Camp

Trilogy's 2nd Training Weekend is on 28 and 29 March and is being led by Jamie Kirkaldy (Cycle and Run). We will also have two swim instructors, one for each lane of a 50m pool (Beginners / Developing and Advanced).

The weekend will be taking place in Clontarf, Dublin, with cycles in the Dublin mountains and Howth Head, and runs along Howth coast road (mainly flat). Accomodation is to be arranged and advised. Likewise, arrangements for meeting up etc are to be finalised.

Members who are entitled to come on this weekend as part of their Winter Training plan are all Gladiators plus any Q4B who did not make the Limerick weekend. Others may join the weekend also, for a cost of €110.00.

If you are interested, please reply to my text (I'll send this on Monday to 2009 Members).

One last thing - to make the weekend applicable to all, I need to get some up to date times for anyone attending. As per the last weekend, could you please swim 1,000m and time yourself (if you are not up to 1,000m yet, 500m will be OK). I will also need an idea of run times and bike times, and hope to use the first test duathlon the weekend before the camp (i.e. on 22 March) to guage this.

TriAthy Volunteering News

Just to give club members a quick update on this. Over the next few weeks you will hear me asking for your help and support for the 2009 race. The race is almost doubled in size again in 2009, and so the demand for volunteers is greater again.

For Trilogy, we have the opportunity to increase the amount raised from this race in 2008 if we can match or better the support we gave last year. I am finalising all of the details and hope to be able to present them to you in full in a couple of weeks time (at a club meeting).

In the meantime, I do have one piece of exciting news for you.

In 2009, the two TriAthy races will not be running simultaneously (TriAthy Olympic in the morning, TriAthy Sprint in the late afternoon). As a member of Trilogy, you will be able to race either the Olympic or Sprint race, and you will be able to do this for free if you agree to marshal the other.

For this to work, we need more than ever people to bring along another non-racing volunteer from outside the club as per last year. For one reason, if the whole club decides to race one, marshal the other, then we end up with no more than 40 volunteers from Trilogy (where we need over 200); also in financial terms, while we would all enjoy a free race, our return compared to last year would be about a quarter.

One final thing: If you are planning to race TriAthy as per the above, then please do not register in the normal way. I will give you details in due course, a place will be available for you even if it sells out.
