The Website Spring Clean

Hard to believe, but the website is almost three years old.

Even harder to believe, is that since we launched it in March 2007, we have had over 70,000 visits to the site, and every day more than 100 people take the time to check us out, spending an average of almost 5 minutes each time.

This level of traffic is only going to rise, and so before the new year gets going and the entries for TriLaois open up, I think it is time we had a tidy-up and refresh of the site.

Some of the planned developments is a login area where members will be able to book races, see their account balance, update their contact information, input their TI number, etc.

Before all of this, I need a handful of helpers to take sections of the website and read through, looking for broken links, old information, missing content, etc.

If you would like to help, I'd love to hear from you. Send me a text or mail karl@trilogy.ie.

Thanks,

Karl

AGM

HI All,

AGM is on Friday night, at 8pm in the Heritage Hotel in Port Laoise. All members welcome. It is a great time for the new members to get an idea as to how the club is run, who runs it, and put some faces to the names.

Also, anyone interested in joining or just interested in Triathlon, are more than welcome to come along.

We also hope to have some of our new trainers there, to have a chat with us about their visi0ns for the club.

See you there!

Roy.

Spinning Classes

Guys,

Could those of you who indicated that you would like to do spinning classes, please complete the survey here, so we can allocate members correctly.

We can only get 1 hour on a Wednesday evening, but we also have an hour on a Sunday morning. If you could indicate your preference, that would be great.

Roy.

Spinning Classes

Guys,

Spinning sessions start tomorrow at 9pm in the Leisure centre. The reason there has been a delay in posting any details is that we have been working on loacations/times. It has been impossible to get 2 hours any evening. We had 33 responses wanting to do spinning, but the room only has 19 bikes. We ask any members who want to do spinning to please go tomorrow night. We are looking at another time, and Alan will be there to explain all.
I will post the costings later in the week.
Swimming also starts Thursday evening, 9pm in the Leisure centre.

Update on Athlone ETU Champs

On Sunday, Willie Roy and myself travelled over to Athlone for the first marshall meeting of the 2010 European Championships.

During the presentation, Hugh McAtamney (Race Director) outlined the plans for the race. Trilogy Triathlon will be charged with looking after a part of the Elite Cylce / Run route near to the castle (also known by the race as 'Spaghetti Junction'!

This is a high-profile, high-responsibility area that the elites will pass through up to 12 times over the course of the race as they chase down the European medals.

I will give you more details at the AGM, but for now give some thought to the following:

  • Trilogy to provide 25 experienced triathlon marshals
Trilogy Marshals will be working the elite event only (age-group and triathlone is a different team)

  • All Trilogy marshals will be free from marshalling duties at the non Elite races and so can race the Triathlone NS event or the ETU European Champs

  • We will be marshalling a total of 4 races - 2 Junior (sprint distance) and 2 Senior (olympic distance)

  • You will race on Saturday, and marshall on Sunday (Juniors in morning, seniors afternoon)

What are the benefits?
  • Triathlone will print about 5,000 t-shirts, polo shirts, marshall tops, and merchansise. But only 70 of all the shirts printed will be elite marshall, and you will receive one of these exclusive shirts (and, yes, Hugh has promised they woon't be exclusively yellow, like in 2009!).

  • You will also be awarded a certificate noting your involvement in the event

  • Other benefits will include food, drinks and specal access to post-race parties (Saturday and Sunday)

  • In addition 5-6 of the marshalls, preferably any one trained as a TD/Ref or who has organised a race in the past will receive ITU training during February or March, and will receive official accreditation of this status. Interestingly, this accreditation would qualify you to Marshall the London Olympics in 2012.

The club will be looking into accomodation options for Friday through to Sunday as both days are potentially early starts and getting into Athlone may not be easy; plus, with accomodation available locally we can properly enjoy the party atmosphere that will descend on the town.

Athlone - Marshals meeting

As announced at the presentation last week, there is an initial meeting for anyone wishing to help out with the showpiece event at TriAthlone- Ireland's first ever European Championship (elite and age-group). This is a great opportunity to show off the midlands of Ireland, and to take on a role at one of the biggest events in Ireland next year.

Marshalling will be arranged in such a wa as to be able to race in one of the Age Group (ETU Champs) or the standard triAthlone National Series event.

The meeting is this Sunday, and I am heading over with Roy, and would be delighted to take along anyone who can make it also. Would be leaving Portlaoise at 11:00am and would hope to home shortly after 2:00pm. Anyone who helped out in 2009 and has feedback would be most welcome.
