As promised, please see the race report from Saturdays race. This is Johnathans first race report, and I for one really enjoyed reading it. Thanks Johnathan and well done!

Race and Marshal option now closing

The race for free option closes today. 3 or 4 people have contacted me to say that the word 'RACE' is not on their itinerary. If you haven't checked yet, could you please take a look for me and get back to me ASAP if you are expecting to race but your itinerary doesn't show it.

Swim Athy - Time, Date, Help and Puns!

SwimAthy happens next Sunday, 30 May at 9:30. Taking place over the new Sprint swim course, the 750m swim event is mainly an opportunity for those racing TriAthy to sample the Barrow, and for us to carry out a 'dry' run (excuse the pun) of the swim course and safety plan.

The course will be set up pretty much as it will be on race day, with the obvious exception of there not being a cycle and run to follow.

I would like all swim marshals (Swim Starter, and Trish's team) to attend if possible as it is a valuable learning exercise. In addition, I would need 6 or so more helpers to lend a hand and make sure it all goes swimmingly (excuse me again).

If you can help, please drop me a text (086-2240115) and I will add you to the list. As with all TriAthy marshalling, the club will be paid for your time.

We need you in Athy 9:00 to 11:00 next Sunday morning, and you will be able to swim the course yourself for free.

TriAthy Volunteer Update

Ongoing thanks due to all, we now have Saturday filled, and just a few more spots for Sunday. Now that everyone has their 'Individual Itineraries', if there is anything you can offer me for Friday (day time), Friday evening or anytime on Sunday, please let me know and I will add it in for you.

Seperately, I need about a dozen people for a couple of hours at Swim Athy next week - more on this later.

The great news from the graphic alongside this page is that the club is set to exceed its target again this year for the return to the club. Good going!

IMPORTANT - TriAthy Roles

I am pleased to announce individual roles for TriAthy Weekend.

Could I ask all club members and race volunteers to take a close look at your individual itinerary, and let me know that you are happy with it. Anyone wishing to 'Race for Free' should ensure that the word 'RACE' appears on their itinerary at the appropriat time (if it doesn't, please contact me also).

I am trying to keep changes to a minimum as every change has a knock-on effect.

The document also forms part of the race briefing, please take a read through it in full.

CLICK HERE for TriAthy 2010 Individual Itineraries.

1st marshal briefing for TriAthy

Please note that there will be a marshal briefing in the Killeshin Hotel, Portlaoise on Monday 30 May at 8:30pm (after running). It shoudl take 20 mins max.

I would really like to see all Portlaoise volunteers to attend this session; attending also ensures you do not need to attend a seperate briefing on race day. Anyone from Athy is also welcome.

Stuff to look out for in the next day or 2 ...

We've got a brilliant first report from Johnathan Robinson about the Weekends Test Tri, dozens of photos from Wesley of the event, plus a pile of other shots from Michael Lawlor who was snapping at Test Tri 1.

Not to mention, of course, our new front-page 'pin-up' in the TriAthy series of photos!

Results from Test Tri 2 & Ranking Points

The results from today's Test Tri are now online Click Here to view. New Course Records, 20 PBs and the best racing conditions since we began in 2006. All in all a brilliant day, well done to all who helped and to all who took part.

With 3 races done, ranking points are starting to be important. Check out the '2010' tab to see how you are doing.

Who's going to send a report for the site? I had 2 last time, would love to hear from you - send a few lines to karl@trilogy.ie.

TriAthy - Thanks to Willie!

I will give a fuller update later to the TriAthy Update graphic, but with 2 weeks to go now to TriAthy, it looks like we are practically there for Saturday, and have about 15 roles to fill for each of the races on Sunday. We also need a few more hands on deck for Friday evening set up and registration.

I would like to say a big well done to Willie, who over the last 5 or 6 days has recruited 10 - yes, 10 - volunteers. Absolutely brilliant work!

Over the weekend I will be publishing the list of duties for everyone helping out. You will get a text when these are available. You will then be able to go to this website and download yours.

Race and Marshal Option Closing

Entries for TriAthy will close at the end of this month. I need to do a bit of work to ensure that anyone down to Marshal gets their chosen race, and if they paid already, gets a refund.

To allow time for all that, the race and marshall option will close on Tuesday 25 May.

Please do not re-register yourself if you are unsure, send me a text or a mail if you need to check race details. These will also be confirmed along with your race duties a the weekend.

Thanks,

We're Nearly there - Keep Pushing!

I have updated the TriAthy graphic for you, taking you right up to date.

As things are, we are now close to filling Saturday, less than 10 more bodies will secure all of the critical positions that day. Looking to Sunday, we have more of a challenge, there are at least 25 more people needed there before we reach a minimum (but stretched) number of helpers.

Speaking of stretching .... I have also started placing people into positions, and hope to have details for everyone later this week about the roles you are down for. I will ask for your understanding in this - to make the resources we have go as far as possible (stretch), I have had to place people on slightly longer days than they may have bought into.

To fill out the team of volunteers, could I please make a further appeal:

  • If you are one of the 19 club members who have yet to sign-up, please (please, please, please) do so. We need you.

  • If you are not already down to help Sunday and can offer me a few hours, please text me.

  • If you know anyone outside of the club racing in one of the sprint races on Sunday, please ask them if they would consider helping out for the other part of the day. They get their race fee back refunded in full, plus get a marshal shirt, lunch, etc. This is available to anyone if they come recommended to me by a member of Trilogy.

  • If you are one of the 15 people racing but HAVE NOT given me a volunteer yet, I need them now. I insist on being fair to everyone, especially those that have provided the extra marshals, or those that are choosing not to race, and the deal is and always was race one day, marshal another, and bring an additional volunteer along. Use this link and select 'Nominate Extra Marshals' option.

With 3 weeks to go, we are almost there. Thank you so much to everyone who has stepped forward to help so far. It will be a great race, and it will be all because of you.

Results from Test Duathlon 2

A good night for racing if a little cold for marshalling. A grand total of 10 new PBs out of 18 racing, plus two new times to beat the previous record by a Trilogy athlete - Shane and Willie, well done.

Results with PBs and ranking points now available - Link to results.

I'll sound my usual appeal and look forward to seeing a race report from one of the participants! karl@trilogy.ie, send it to me in any format you like.

Update on TriAthy

Check out the updated graphic alongside. We're edging our way there, but we still have a good way to go. There are people in the club who are making extra efforts to recruit, and I would like to thank them - John Fox, Dave Osborne, Johnathan Robinson, Helena Rothwell, Niall Kavanagh and Trish Nicholls have added almost 20 volunteers between them over the last week or 10 days.

Keep it up, we'll get there!

Check back tomorrow for the new poster boy (replacing Dermot on the front page!)

Test Tri 2 - Another report

Niall Kavanagh has sent in a second report from Test Tri 2, so now we have a competitor report and one from a marshal. Great Stuff! Thanks to all the new reporters out there, we are always looking for contributions for the site!

Read Nialls Report.

TriAthy Course Previews

Arthur has been doing some great work on the triathy.com website, not least the Competitor Charter and the brand new course maps.

Please take a look at these, there have been important changes to the swim course and a whole new evet 'Try-Athy'. All very useful if you are marshalling, essential to know if you are racing.

TriAthy Olympic Preview
TriAthy Sprint Preview
TRY-Athy (try distance) Preview

Finally, the Competitor Charter is a first for an Irish race, it is what we promise to do for our competitors, and it is something we all have a part to play in delivering.

Lots of New Stuff!

So many updates, thought I'd stick 'em into one update.

Lets start with Johnathan, who has given me a few more pics from Joey Hannon - Check them out.

Keeping with Joey, Dave has been hearing great things about his race report, but Helen has sent me one to match it for quality. Read about Helen's first Olympic Distance Triathlon of many. Click to read.

Of course, Dave fans might also want to check out his report from today's race. Believe me, he has kept up the standard with his latest report. Click to read.

Tomorrow, check back for an update on the TriAthy Volunteers.

Test Tri Results - Tip

Two of the people racing today have contacted me about the Test Results. When the results download, there are a number of tabs down the bottom - one for the overall ranking, then one for each test tri. To see today's results, for example, click TT2.

This is the same for duathlon, and will be the same all season. Very useful if you want to check out how you are doing time after time.

Test Tri 2 results - now online

The results from today's Test Tri are now online Click Here to view.

Who's going to send us a report for the site? Go on, send a few lines to karl@trilogy.ie.

Joey Report and Photos

A great race report from Dave, and a great set of shots from Johnathan. Thanks, Lads.

Europeans - Important Message

This message with thanks to Dave Osborne who picked it up from www.triathlonireland.com ....

Anyone interested in racing in Athlone should check out the Triathlon Ireland website as there are still places available in all womens age groups and most mens age groups.

Don't be shy. You might not get the chance to represent your country at home for a long time.

You need to get an application form into Triathlon Ireland by the 14th May (That's next Friday!)

Trisuits will soon be available from TI and there are new rules to be aware of if you are using an existing trisuit.

TriAthy Appeal

Just one month to go now to TriAthy, but we still have a long way to go to reach our target for marshals (see graphic alongside the news page).

As things stand we are half-way there for Saturday, and just one-third of the way there for Sunday. Overall we need at least another 60 volunteers from the club.

Will we get there? Yes, we definitely still can.

If you fall into either of the two groups below, I would especially ask you to take action and Click to Register Now:

  1. You are one of the 42 members of the club who have yet to respond. Come on! The club needs you!!

  2. You are one of the 14 members hoping to race but haven't nominated a volunteer - this doesn't work, the deal is you must provide an additional helper if you want to race.

If you are one of the 44 other members either marshalling only or racing but have provided 1,2 and even 3 helpers, a big BIG B I G thank you!

We don't need to take drastic decisions right now, but if it comes to it, everyone planning to race will be expected to withdraw and marshal instead.
