Even more photos

Guys,

Pauline Griffen (from 3D Tri I think) has posted up a few hundred photos that her dad took in Budapest. Sinead and Helen will remember him from Sunday morning. Anyway, there are loads of excellent photos here.

Roy.

Budapest Race Report / Memory of 2010

The final series of photos, and also the largest, is in the pipeline. Helens collection will be on the site tomorrow.

Meanwhile, we haven't had the pleasure of a race report yet - c'mon, someone must've been inspired by the Budapest experience to pen one? Surely?

Now, while you have me grumpy ... I heard that the appeal for your favourite moment of 2010 has yielded one - just one solitary - response.

Sinead is planning something special, but she is relying on us, i.e. the club, to send her some stuff over.

Go on - it will take you 2 mins to do. Use the new link below to send in your memory of the year.

Train with Alastair Brownlee?

Mark Swan from Pirahna (many of us met Mark in Budapest, he who borrowed Sineads bike), is raising money for Temple Street Childrens hospital. On Sat 23 October, Mark is bringing Athlone European Champion Alastair Brownlee back to Dublin for a VIP cycle and run training session. Limited to 30 places, this is your opportunity to hang out with and train with one of the best triathletes on the planet. You will also be able to attend a Q&A session later that evening in Dublin.

Your place for the day costs €200, or €20 for the Q&A only. Every single cent raised goes to Temple Street. There are still some places available, e-mail mark.swan911@gmail.com to reserve your spot.

It's Here ... Johnathans Photo Gallery

Johnathan was snapped in the presence of legends at Budapest. Even World Champion Gomez was looking around to see who would be next to be photoed with JR. Jan, Alistair, Silva, Snowsill, Moffatt, the lot. Check out Johnathans collection of photos by clicking the the picture below.

Lough Key Triathlon Race Report

We break away now from the photos of Budapest to bring a report by Niall Kavanagh from the National Sprint Championships that took place at Lough Key on 4 September. Click here to read Nialls race report, or the picture below to see the photos (thanks to Madeleine Kavanagh for these).

The 2010 Yearbook

Just a reminder to drop Sinead a note with your favourite tale of 2010 - eveybody has one! Something happen at a test tri, or at one of the races we went to, maybe it happened in training?

Budapest Photos & reports on the way

Watch out! On this site over the next few days, you will see reports and photos from Budapest aplenty.

There are literally hundreds of photos of Budapest in the pipeline, and although I haven’t received any yet, I am certain we will also have a couple of race reports to read. Rather than upload everything at once, each day over the next week or so, I will put up more items.

Well done to all involved, supporter or racer!

Budapest Update

All our 10 competitors did us proud this morning! In horrible weather, Michael and Johnathon, first group on the water for the sprints, got things going at 6:55. They were followed by Sinead, Liam, Dave, Simon, Denise Eimear, Trish and Steve. As the morning progessed, the rain abated, and they enjoyed a rain free run. On what was a very flat and fast course, there were no accidents and all crossed the line in one piece (including Johnathon). More details to come, with full times and a race report.

Well done to all.

Sarting the week with some good news

Some great news. Declan is home from hospital a week now and making a strong recovery. With two cracked bones in his neck and one cracked rib, Declan is taking it easy for a while but already planning a return to training in the new year.

Here's to seeing you at the first test duathlon 2011, Declan!

Test Duathlon 2010 - TDG & Final results / rankings

In spite of the perfect weather and the grand final nature of the proceedings, it was a small crowd who took on Test Duathlon 6 2010. For those who raced there were plenty of personal bests, and lots of encouragement for anyone heading to Budapest.

Sinead Wearen, taking part in her first of the season, showed that her Ironman legs have recovered and set a new PB, while Trish Nicholls, our champion this season in triathlon, came close to a PB in securing the double and putting her name on the duathlon trophy also. Trish's time is over 4 minutes faster than TD5, so can be encouraged by her form ahead of the World Championships.

Both of our Juniors can clay claim to the same form, with each setting a PB, Michaels closing out a strong season with a trophy winning total of over 4,000 points, Johnathan keeping up his form to chip a bit off the PB each time, and banking the bonus points to boot.

The mens race had a newcomer in Dave Murphy, and a first-timer-this season in Simon Tsang, together with three others - Wesley Reilly, Anthony McDonald and Dave Osborne.

While Wesley consolidated his ranking, taking 4th overall this season, and both Simon and Anthony set new PBs, the performance of the night went to Dave Osborne. Claiming all three parts of the course, first overall and a new PB earned Dave a total of 1240 points, and put him as close as possbile to Shane Delaney in the overall ranking. Just 11 points seperated 1st and 2nd overall ranks, and only 15 seconds seperate the Course Record of Shanes from Daves shiny new PB. Will there be a bit of competition at the top next year? You betcha.

Final word of mention to Dave Murphy. It was his first outing, but he managed to hold close to Osborne on both the run sections, in fact he was just 1 second behind on Run2 - another man to watch in 2011.

Download the results from Test Duathlon 6 & the season rankings at this link.

Checked in Bags for Budapest

Hard to believe we're just 5 days away now!

As explained at the meeting last week, I will be booking checked in bags only as required. See below, and please contact me if you either need a bag booked (and I haven't got one for you), or you don't need a bag.

Remember - everybody can bring on a 10kg bag as hand luggage (usual cabin sized bag).

1. A bag for each person racing. This is in addition to your bike box. Please see appeal below about packing the bike box!
2. A bag for the following supporters - James & Joe Delaney (1 bag shared), June & Ciara Delaney (1 bag shared), Martha & Andrew Dalton (1 bag shared), James Croke & Maria Delaney (1 bag shared).

Notes about the bike box
Bike boxes are subject to a weight limit of 20kg. Your bike is going to be apx 9-11kg, and your box will be 11-12kg. You don't need to be a calculator to work out that every bike box is likely to weigh more than 20kg. What I am asking everyone to do is keep the box strictly for just the bike. If we keep it close to 20kg, we might get away with it. If we end up being charged an excess, on the other hand its going to be very very expensive!
