Trilogy Triathlon Club Gear 2010

Trish is working on a new order of Trilogy Triathlon gear for 2011. The main part of this order will be a batch of new Tri-suits, which feature the very latest in materials, and pockets to the rear.

In addition to the new tri-suits, we will also be ordering a long-sleeved version of the cycle top, and (if there is enough interest), matching cycle shorts (professional grade, padded shorts).

At this stage we need an indication of interest so that an order can be placed. On the right hand side of this page there is a short survey which we would ask you to fill out (press refresh if it doesn't appear). We need members to complete this over the weekend as an order must be placed by 1 February.

The idea is that we have this gear before the end of March so that members have the tri-suit for the first test tri event on 2 April.

Please Note: There is no requirement to purchase at this time, these items will be available via log-in in a couple of weeks time. There will be an option to pay by instalment for gear.

Race Entry Service - now open

The 2011 Race Entry Service is now available to 2011 members (you will only be able to use the service after you have renewed your membership).

The Race Entry Service is unique to Trilogy and allows you to both plan and pay for your races at the start of the season (you can choose to pay in full or by 5 equal instalments over 5 months.

The club then takes care of your entry into chosen races.

In order for this to work, we need you to select your race before the orgnaising club opens entries. This allows us to be organised for getting you entered. For example, the first race on the service to open for entrires is North Tipp Sprint. Anyone interested in this race needs to select it by 6pm on 9 February so that the Race Entry Team are ready for its opening on 11 February.

Log in to start. After you log in you can select the Race Entry Service on the right side of the page (either Pay in Full or by Instalment as you prefer).

If you have any difficulties or questions, please contact Karl.

Cycling Reading and Coaching Advice

A few weeks back John Fox sent us an article about cycle training in groups (in italics below). There is a part 2 to this, which John has also kindly sent:

Download Part 2

If you are also interested in some further reading, Grant Thornton (sponsors of cycling) have put up a free download from Sean Kelly about cycling on their site. It includes tips and advice for cyclists of all levels about equipment, clothing, technique and position. Click here to download from www.grantthornton.ie. Thanks to Dave Osborne for this one!

Following on from Simons download of swim sessions, John Fox has sent on a short article about cycling training and the benefit of training in groups. Now, it doesn't mention how to ensure good weather each weekend (I checked twice ;)), but it does cover a lot of other basics.

Well worth a read, thanks John.

Age Group Success in early season

Patrick has filed a report from the race at Punchestown. Read about our success at this link.

IMPORTANT NOTICE Renew Your Membership

All 2010 club memberships expire on 31 January (next Monday). Any member wanting to stay in the club must renew their membership for 2011 (free).

This means that if you do not renew your membership by Monday you will no longer be a member of the club and you will not:

1. Receive any texts from the club
2. Be able to attend any training session with the club
3. Take part in the Test Tri or Test Duathlon Series
4. Be able to use the clubs 'Race Entry Service'
5. Race for the club
6. Buy gear, calendars, etc associated with the club

To confirm your membership for 2011, please:

1. Log in to your account
2. Select '2011 Membership Renewal' on the right hand side of the page
3. Click Order

The above takes about 20 seconds to complete.

4. Please also click into the 'Edit Profile / Change Password' link at the bottom of the right hand side and update your information. We will need everyone to put in a new TI number on this page - see below for more.

TI Number.
As announced at the AGM, and on this website, all members must be members of TI also. This is a serious requirement as our insurance is based on us all being members of TI - someone coming out to training who has not bothered to join TI potentially puts everyone they train with at risk. To renew your membership with TI, please go to www.triathlonireland.com. Any TI membership is fine (Associate, Full, Student, Junior).

Limerick ETU Duathlon championships

Anyone who is planning to race for Ireland in Limerick, please note that the final closing date for applications were changed recently by TI. You now need to apply by 24 January to be considered. There are two routes open to selection - the qualification race in Naas on 23 January, and the 'Selection Pool' which is for places left after the other rounds have filled their places.

Like all international competition, selection is achievable in 95% of cases so long as you are eligible (living or born in Ireland) and are a member of TI. Contact Karl if you need further advice.

Important Notice - Portlaoise Try-athlon Marshalling Text

As announced on Monday, there will be a text to all members asking your availibility to marshall at Portlaoise Try-athlon on 9 April. This will be sent tomorrow morning.

The club is trialling a new 'text reply' service. When you receive the text, you reply either 'Y' or 'N' for 'yes, I am available' or 'no, I am not available'.

As race organiser the one thing you never want is a no respose, so please help Alan out by responding with either 'Y' or 'N'. It is worth reminding you that if you harbour any desire to race, you need to volunteer to marshall in the first place (so send back a 'Y'); further details about entering the race will follow in a few weeks time.

If this service works well, I will be using it for other purposes during the year - e.g. Test tri and test duathlon sign-up, and marshalling for TriAthy.

CLUB GEAR

I will bring a selection of Gear to Pool on Thur at 8.30pm
Could those I owe gear too also come down early.

Portlaoise Try-athlon - Marshall Appeal

Following a meeting last night, Race Director Alan Cussen would like to start the appeal for Marshalls. The race is today less than three months away, and Alan and his team want to get an idea of who will be available to assist on the day.

To make the race the huge success we want it to be, we will need over 70 bodies across the pool, transition, bike, run and finish line sections.

Text later this week - please respond
The first text about this will send next week, and Alan would really like to hear back from you to get an initial idea of numbers.

members wishing to race
Alan has also clarified the position on club members racing. There will be a small number of 'stand-by' places available to the club for its members, but these will be offered only to people who have their name down to marshall.

The message is this - if you have any interest in racing Portlaoise Try-athlon, you need to have your name down as a marshall to have any chance. Members who do not volunteer may not race. The only exception to this is for brand new members, and for junior members.

Swim Sessions to Download

Eimear has given Simon some of the swim sessions we have done this year and last at the Thursday night session. Simon then typed these up for all to use in their own sessions - these are really effective if you can do a session each week along with your normal swimming.

Thanks to both Eimear and Simon for these.

Portlaoise Try-athlon opens for entries

Portlaoise Try-athlon opens for entries today at www.trilaois.ie.

Our new Race Director, Alan Cussen, has asked that club members do not enter this race at the current time. Some places will be available for the club at a later time and once Alan is comfortable that the race is fully marshalled. Any club members considering the race will need to provide 2 confirmed marshalls. (The above does not apply to Junior members, 16-19 year olds).

However, if you know someone not yet in the club, or someone thinking of taking up the sport, please invite them to enter the race - it is a great time to set a New Year's Goal! Entry fees are the same as last year & 2009, €35 for individuals, €20 for Juniors and €70 for relay teams (2 or 3 members).
