Accommodation for Kilkee - Book it now

You can now book accommodation for the Club weekend away to Kilkee (24-26 June 2011). The club is fielding over 40 members, and we also want to see lots of support. The race is one of the country's finest, and the after-party simply has no competition.

Accommodation is charged at €15 per head per night, with the balance subsidised by the club. Members and partners / spouses, racing or not, are invited to take this offer up.

We would ask you to book your place ASAP and pay for it online as we need to send deposits to secure rooms. The option to book accomodation will disappear on 10 April, giving you 10 days to avail of the offer.

To book and pay, please Login and select the accommodation you need (single / double, 1 night / 2 nights).

Test Triathlon Series Returns

Hurrah! It's back.

On Saturday we will be holding the first Test Triathlon of 2011 at the Heritage Hotel Leisure Centre (register from 7:30 to 8:00am outside the car park). For the many new members we have welcomed to the club, I have put together a rough guide to the series, including route maps, which you can now see at This Link.

All members, new and old, please take a note of the following:

  1. Like the Test duathlons, you will get a text later today from an 086 number. To register to help or to take part, please reply to that number (and that number only) BEFORE 4pm tomorrow. If your text has been received you will get a confirmation back within a couple of hours, and tomorrow evening I will put all the names entered on here.

  2. If you are not a member of the Heritage, you need a guest pass from them to take part. These cost €10, and we will be collecting these before the test tri starts. Please try to bring the correct amount. Heritage members do not need a guest pass

  3. We will be using the Freelap watches, and there will be a brief demo of these before we start

Finally, the weather looks reasonably good for Saturday.

Race Entry - Hell of the West

The race entry team had a very frustrating morning.

Hell of the West race entry opened this morning through the TI Website, which was immediately swamped, overwhelmed, slowed down and eventualy taken down with techinical difficulties.

The upshot -- Not all of the 400 places were allocated and will reopen on thur 24 Mar at 9am.
(2nd phase entry on 18 Apr)

We did get 13 members entered and will enter the rest on thursday morning.

A full list of succesful entrants will be publised on Thursday.

Watch this space for updates and a very big thanks to our Race Entry Team for their efforts so far.

Coaching Workshop

A BIG THANK YOU to all those who turned up on Saturday to get us through our Coaching Hours.
There was great feed back and a lot was learned by both athletes and coaches. Denise, Sandra, Sinead & Trish.

Results from Test Duathlon 2

Well done to all concerned, and apologies for all the messing about. I had three issues today, all of which were manageable if they happened alone! Patrick is buying us a new printer, and I am going to get on to the timing company and the text company.

Here are the results, some good times despite the rough winds, and even a few PBs - Helen Rothwell, Deirdre Walsh and Mick Horgan.

Download results from here.

Great results at a great race

Trilogy was well represented at the 'Streets of Portlaoise' 5k race, held yesterday.

The distance over 3.5 laps was exactly 5km, and impressive times were had by all on what was a fast course.

See the race report for our results (apologies if I missed anyone out, please let me know if I did!).

Race Entry Service - 5 Races left

Just a general update for the club. We have just five races left on the Race Entry Service, all of which are National Series Events:

  • Crooked Lake (Sprint), 11 June

  • TriAthlone (3 distances, 2 NS / 1 non NS), 2 July

  • Beast of the East (Olympic), 23 July

  • Caroline Kearney Memorial (Olympic), 13 August

  • Lough Key Triathlon (Sprint), 4 September

Closing Soon
While we are still waiting on details for some of these races, I expect that these five will all close off in the next 4 weeks or so. So - if you are hoping to use the race entry service, please get in there as soon as you can.

Race Entry Fees
The race entry fees charged to you as members of Trilogy were estimates made before Christmas and long before any race opened. In some cases they were good estimates, in some cases not so good! This means that potentially we overcharged some members for some races and undercharged members for other races.

A full reconciliation will be done after Race Entry Service closes and I will send back any money we owe, or contact you if we owe you anything. To keep things simple, if the amount the club owes / you owe the club is less than €3.00, we are going to ignore it.

Profile Reminders
Just a note to remind all members to ensure that their profile is up to date on trilogy.ie. We need this information to enter you in races, and one of the more difficult jobs we have to do is chase this up as a race deadline approaches.

In a lot of cases, we have missing TI numbers, swim times, t-shirt sizes, next of kin contacts and TI login details - these are all essential for the Race Entry Service.

To check yours Log in and then click 'Edit Profile' on the menu. Complete all sections.

Hell of the West Entry service - Action Needed

The Race Entry Service is building up for a big day on Monday morning, when we are trying to get 40+ members entered into Hell of the West.

Hell of the West is our club weekend away, so we want to get everyone in.

There are a number of people with details missing on their trilogy.ie profiles, that we now need filled in. These are questions we will be asked on your behalf, without them we will not be able to get you entered.

    Members missing information:
Kevin Doyle, Mark Geraghty, Alan Murphy, Catriona Marshall, Karen O'Grady, Sandra Furney, Michelle Duggan, Mark Kelly, Patrick Marshall, Deirdre Ryan, Wesley Reilly and Noel O'Reilly

Finally, there is a great deal available on accomodation for anyone coming to Kilkee to race or support. For now, please contact Willie for more information. In the next few days there will be more details about the cost and how to pay online for it.

New Member

Congratulations to Danny Slavin and his wife on the birth of the first child Thomas 3 weeks ago. Mum and baby are reported to be doing well and Danny was able to attend spinning last Tuesday so obviously they are all coping very well. Looks like there could be some competition between Messrs Osborne, McCann and Slavin in time to come....... nothing like starting them early.

Free Coaching Session - Help Trilogy Coaches

Trilogy Triathlon have four members who are getting tested on Saturday 19 March to become fully qualified Level 1 Triathlon Coaches. Since last September they have been working towards this day, and now it is upon us they are asking for your help.

On Saturday, they will be under the scrutiny of TI Level 2 Triathlete Coach – Eamonn Tilley. In order for our members to receive their qualification, they will be tested and observed by Eamon for a total of 5 hours.

With Portlaoise Try-athlon on the horizon, they are hosting a Triathlon Workshop. It will take place at Portlaoise leisure Centre between 09:00hrs and 14:00hrs. Every one is welcome to attend, particularly those who are new to the sport and dipping their toes into our wonderful multisport for the first time.

While the day is over 5 hours, the team are hoping as many people can come along to at least one part of the day. Choose the area you would like to be coached in, and come along at the time below:

  • 9 -10am Perfecting Transition

  • 10-12.30 Coached Bike (in conjunction with Portlaose Try-athlon Women in Sport)

We need all hands on deck for this and if you are available for all or part of the day, please text Trish (086-3866046) to let her know the time and hours you are able to attend. Looking forward to seeing you there.

Test Series Return

With the beautiful spring sunshine finally here, it seems like a perfect time to remind everyone that the 2011 Test Duathlon series kicks off next Sunday at the Heath. The 2011 Test Triathlon series starts in 4 weeks time on 2 April.

Trilogy's Test events are very popular, short-distance race simulation events that are perfect for beginners looking to learn race skills, and for veterans looking to sharpen their pace against their peers.

There is a FULL PREVIEW available now which includes details of how test duathlons work, a course map, how you earn points and a link to the last 5 years results.

Along with the preview, there are some important notes below:

1. TI Membership - Essential
As everyone knows, you MUST hold a TI licence to train with the club. The test series events are training sessions that mimic race conditions. It is absolutely essential that you have a TI licence to take part (Associate or Full licence).

As it stands, only 43 of our 97 members have added a TI number to their trilogy.ie account. 54 of you need to take action to take part. (all you need to do is log in to your trilogy.ie account, edit your profile and add in your TI number, which you can get from www.triathlonireland.com).

2. How to sign-up for the Test Duathlon
Last year members signed up for test events online. This year we are using a new Text Service, members who want to take part just have to reply to the tex - Easy! On Friday, members will receive a text asking for a reply. Please reply with either 'Racing' or 'Helping'.

As in previous years, you cannot turn up on the day as this messes with results and the starting order.

3. Volunteers needed
Test duathlons only work if we have 6-7 volunteers to help out. In order for you to gain maximum points, each participant has to help out once over the series - for this you earn 100 ranking points plus 50 bonus points for every test duathlon you do. If you are not yet 'race ready', test duathlon 1 is a great time to help out.

4. Time of Signing On
Our first two duathlons take place on a Sunday morning, registration for these will be from 10:15am. The test duathlon will commence before 11:00am.
