TriAthy 2009 - One Month to go

This time next month, work will be well underway for the B I G G E S T race day in Irish triahtlon history, TriAthy 2009. Trilogy Triathlon, our club, will be right at the heart of it and be responsible that it all goes off without a hitch.

At this time there are 22 people listed as available to volunteer, and later today each of them will receive a text thanking them for support. We still, however, need 90 or so people to ensure we have enough help to support the two races, Olympic in the Morning, and Sprint in the evening, and the 2,500 competitors expected to race.

We're a big club, and we can meet this demand, there is no doubt. Please click on the graph on the right hand side of this page to volunteer yourself, and to register friends, family and others prepared to help.

Remember, its one day for the club, but one day that rewards well and funds the club for a full year.

Register Now by Clicking the Graph on the right hand side.

Thanks Karl

Guys,

As you may already know, we are testing a new timing system in the morning. It will greatly benefit the test series we run. Again, Karl has done a huge amount of work on this.

On behalf of the committee and all the members, I would like to thank Karl for all the work he does for us, we wouldn't be the same club without him.

Roy.

Injured? Bike off the road? Help Needed for Sunday

A big thank you to the 14 people who have selected the test events they will help at this year. I am happy to tell you that there is an even distribution of volunteers across all events.

The only exception to this is Test Duathlon 3 (this Sunday). If you are not available to take part, this is a good opportunity to get your duathlon volunteering out of the way, leaving you free to take part in the remaining 3 events.

Over 40 members have taken part in either a 2009 test duathlon or test triathlon event, so there are many more of you still to pick races for helping.

New Procedures for Test Events

As a club, we've always changed to get bigger, and so it is with the test series in 2009. There are two new important changes that will effect the way the test duathlon and test triathlon series work in 2009.

Short Story:

1. Members need to pre-register for all test events
2. Numbers and start times will be posted online the day before, but you still need to sign-in no later than 30 minutes before the start on the test event day.
3. To get full ranking points in both seres, Members have to marshal one test triathlon and one test duathlon at least. (Junior members are exempt from marshal duties).

Long Story: See see here

See related posts below.

Test Duathlon 3 - Pre-register now

Test Duathlon 3 is on this Sunday on the Heath, sign-on is before 10am, with first member off at 10:30.

Under new procedures, you now need to pre-register for all test events. Pre-registration for Test Duathlon 3 will close at 6pm Friday 24 April. No late registrations!

On Saturday, you will be able to see your race number, who else is taking part and your starting sequence. Remember, you still need to physically sign the disclaimer sheet and be body marked before 10am on Sunday.

Test Series Volunteering

There are 4 test duathlons and 5 test tris left this season. Members are being asked to pick one of each series to marshal.

Please select your date carefully - you will be expected to be there, and if you don't make it, you will lose up to 350 bonis points - enough to concede 5 ranking places in either series.

Some ideas in picking events:

- Bear in mind your other races. If you are racing the day after an event, this is a perfect one to choose to marshal
- Remember personal events like holidays, etc. Maybe the weekend after you come back is a better time to marshal than race?
- Think ahead, the season's long - we need 7 helpers per event, so its not much benefit if everyone simply picks the next two events!

Pick the events you want to marshal here.

Test Tri 1 Results

Well done to all of you who finished the Test Tri today. The event has never been as popular, and it still works so well as both a competitive series for those in their fourth year, and a great first try for people new to the sport.

Speaking of new people, there was a great turn out in all categories - Carol Fennell and Eleanor Doherty in the Ladies, Liam Byrne, Anthony McDonald, Robert Grant, Shane Beere and William Aylward in the mens, Siobhan O'Toole, Michael Dalton, William Fitzpatrick, Richard Nichollsa and Sean McCormack in the Juniors.

I think most of you will have seen what happens when help doesn't appear, and we did suffer today as a result. There are a few missing times, punctures on the road were left unattended, and overall we took some shortcuts on safety. We cannot let this be repeated, so over the next few days you will see on here a new way to ensure that this doesn't happen again, based on people sacrificing one event to help through the year.

Below are PROVISIONAL Results. If you feel there was an error, or if you think your time is incorrect, please contact me before Monday, 6pm. If no changes are made, these results will be final.

I will finish with a big, big thank you to the marshals who helped out. Put under extraordianry pressure, they persisted to the end and. Triona, Tom, Joe and Kevin, thank you.

Quick Reminder on Paying for Test Tri's

Just a reminder that there is a €12.00 guest fee payable to the Heritage leisure Centre to take part in each test tri. This is to cover use of the pool, use of the grounds and use of the shower afterwards. Payment should be to the reception of the Leisure Centre.

Members of the Heritage do not need to pay this fee.

More Try-athlon Photos

See www.trilaois.ie/Photos.html for two new galleries, photos taken near Ballydavis, about 5km into the cycle. We are very fortunate to have almost 700 high quality shots to remember the great day by, again thanks to Elaine, Paul and Tony, our photographers on the day.

Test Tri Routes and newbies

Hi All,

Here are a couple of links to give the new members an idea of the routes we use. Use them only as a rough guide.

This is the route of the bike and this is the route of the run.

Hope to see you all there.

Roy.

Tri Gear

Hi All,

Justin, the guy with the tri gear, who was at the last meeting, will be at the test tri on Saturday. If you need any helmets, shoes etc, he will be available. He will also have a selection of Carbon wheels for those who are interested.

Test Tri Returns

Trilogy’s Test Tri series returns for its fourth year. This year, there are a few small changes that you need to be aware of, especially if you have been used to the old format.

1. Registration: Sign-on will open earlier at 7:45, and close earlier at 8:15. The earlier pool start (see below) explains why we cannot delay this.
2. Briefing and Numbering: Briefing will start at 8:25, as will body-marking and wave announcements.
3. Pool start: We need to be in the pool at 8:45
4. Multiple lanes. Between 8:45 and 9:00 we can use up to three lanes at once (pool closed to leisure centre members). This allows us to have more starts, smaller waves and shorter waiting around time. It should also provide more competition as there will be more people around you at any one time.
5. Text Tomorrow. In order to get an idea of who’s coming, and who’s helping, please answer the text to be sent to all members tomorrow about participation.
6. No TI Number, no take-part. Current Members are listed here.

All the other arrangements will be the same – i.e. same course, same transition zone, same rules, results will be available in the same place, etc. As per last year, we will divide swimmers on merit (i.e. no first ladies only wave).

If anyone needs to know the course, please get in touch with Karl, Roy, Sinead, or any experienced member of the club. Due to the tight deadlines in the pool, there will not be a drive-through available.

Good Luck!

Test Duathlon 2 Report & Results

By all accounts yesterday's duathlon was a competitive affair across all categories. Trish and Sinead battled it out to lead the ladies, with Sinead winning the battle in the end and claiming first ranking after two events. Shane Delaney replicated this in the mens series, tying on time with Stephen O'Toole, but awarded the overall win on the basis of ranking number 1 in two of the three legs. Peter Travers and Murt Keane battled it out for 3rd and 4th, the placing going to Travers as his two impressive run results trumped Murts excellent bike split.

In the Junior series, Michael Dalton, who we know as a strong Thursday night swimmer proved that he can also give it a lash on the bike and run legs. Ross Byrne put up a strong challenge and made sure of his number 1 series rank, but was left with second place on the day behind Dalton. Sean McCormack also made a debut, checking out the course and making a benchmark to beat next time.

Just a reminder to all concerned that we do need help to pull this series off. Terry has taken on a lot of work in organising the race and compiling the results, abd believe me, its a lot easier to do this when you don't have to stress about help. So well done Terry on organising another great event, and a big thank you to the helpers who produce a perfect set of timing results.

Test Duathlon 2 - Sunday

Judging by the turn-out for the March Duathlon, Sunday's second test duathlon of the year will be even bigger.

For the newcomers among you, we do hope to see you there, and for information about how it all works, See this page for more.

Before you click away ... please note three things:
  • Registration opens 9:30 to 10:00. Please don't delay the start for everyone by arriving later than this.

  • No TI Number on this page, no duathlon. And this time we are serious.

  • No helmet, no duathlon.

  • We can only do these type of events if we have helpers. So if you can help, or bring help, please do.

Your Club Needs You - TriAthy 2009

Volunteer Registration is now open for TriAthy 2009.

We need 100 people to help out on the day. Theres lots of new benefits in 2009, including the option of racing one event and marshaling the other, and to be included on the guest list for the post-race party.

The biggest benefit is however for the club. Support the club that supports you and start registering yourself and others to help out.

One polite request. If you are planning to race and marshal, then please understand that this really only works for the club if you find others to help out as well as yourself. We lose money, we lose marshals and we have a problem if people don't meet this request.

Register here

Jack L Confirmed for TriAthy

As mentioned at the club meeting last week, Jack L will be headlining the post-race party at TriAthy. The gig, which will be set in the intimate surroundings of White Castle, Athy, even has its own website.

The good news is that TriAthy Marshals will be on the guest list for this one. Watch out later today for a link to register as a TriAthy Marshal. This will also enable you to register to race TriAthy also (subject to conditions, etc).
