Heritage Challenge 2007 - Race Update

With 2 days to go, the good news is that we have filled the Heritage Challenge 2007. There are over 60 individuals and 6 teams taking part this year, making it slightly bigger than the 2006 event, the largest tri ever held in Laois.

And more good news! While we can't rule out rain, it seems that Saturday is to be mild with sunny spells. With all the bad weather we've been having since July, I reckon we are due a bit of good weather on Saturday!

Important - Race Registration Details

Just a couple of important times to bear in mind. We are opening registration at 7:30, and expect queues to form from about 8:00am onwards. To start the race on time, we need everyone registered by 8:30. Make your race preparation comfortable and avoid queues by arriving as early as possible.

Please remember - while each of you is already entered in the race, you strictly cannot race on Saturday without signing in. You also need to register on the morning so that you are included in out timing system, and to be eligible for winning prizes.

On arrival at the Heritage Hotel, you will sign a declaration and receive your race number and your goodie bag. You will also be able to 'check-in' your runners if you are cycling to Killenard in cycling shoes. A Trilogy Triathlon representative will also be available to answer any of your questions.

After registration, you will have time to set up your bike and gear and to prepare for your swim. We ask you to re-assemble in the the registration area at 8:45am for a race briefing. At this briefing, the Race Director will give you any course updates, outline the timing system, go over safety instructions and race rules and give details for post-race results and refreshments. Attendance is Mandatory for all competitors at this briefing.

PLEASE NOTE: Relay teams must register together, in person and in Portlaoise, and all members must attend the 9am Race Briefing. Any team that has not registered three members will not receive official times and will not be eligible for the relay prize.

Just after the briefing, the race will commence (you will have an opportunity to leave any baggage you want transported to Killenard for after the race). There are three swim heats - 9:30, 9:55 and 10:20. At registration you will be given your start time and lane number. Transition area closes when the briefing starts 9:00am, so it is important that - even if you are in the 9:55 or 10:20 heat - that you are all set up before 9:00am.

There is a 28-page race manual that is yours to download from http://www.trilogy.ie/HCT.html. It includes everything you need to know about the race, including course details, preparing transition, rules, penalties, logistics, etc.

Please remember - up to 30 people are giving up their Saturday morning to make sure you have a safe race, that you don't get lost en route, and that your times and split times are recorded accurately. We ask you to respect their generosity by being on time on Saturday - if registration is delayed, the race is delayed, and these good people end up giving more time than they need to.

To everyone racing on Saturday - "Here's to your safe, competitive, fun and successful race".

Karl McCann - Race Director
