TriAthy 2011

The start of the new season of triathlon is already here, and with it we are now gearing up for TriAthy. The 2011 event on 4/5 June incorporates 4 race distances - the traditional Olympic and Sprint events, the return of the Try-distance event from 2010, and a new long distance (Double Olympic Event).Join the Marshall List now
Trilogy Triathlon are providing all the marshals for the event, and so we are looking to our members to make the event a success again in 2011. With Saturday 4 June being the biggest day for racing, with two separate sessions, we will be looking for about 120 people to cover all points through the day. On Sunday, racing will finish earlier (around lunchtime), and we need about 80 to cover that day. There will also be other duties, such as set-up and registration on Friday 3 June, tidy-up after racing on Sunday and the SwimAthy event which happens the Sunday before race weekend. All members are expected to marshal the event, and we also ask that you bring along additional help. Each marshal supplied by the club brings additional money to the club, and this money is used entirely for member benefits - like subsidised training, coaching, discount club gear, free events like the Test Series, trips away, social activities, right down to the website and text service. Please Join the Marshall List now

Results of Test Duathlon 3

Wow! Some exceptional times here tonight.

Starting with the Personal Bests, Wesley gained half a minute, while Dave chopped a neat 2 minutes of his, and Robert Grant cutting his by well over three minutes. John Keenan set down a very respectable first time of 43:05, and will be surely back to challenge it next time out.

Trish Nicholls has been trying to break the 45 minute barrier ever since she came so close back in 2009, and today not only achieved that but went under 44 for good measure too.

But then we move to the new course records. Michael Dalton broke into new territory by being the first junior to go sub-30, despite being chased down by marathon man Kevin Doyle for the second run.

Sinead Wearen has also equalled - to the second - the long-standing female record set by Mary Daly back in July 2007. Knowing Sinead, she will not want to share the glory either, watch out for the pink time machine at Test Duathlon 4.

And the final mention goes to Dave Osborne, who has set the second fastest ever time on the course, and became the second person ever to go sub 37 minutes. Although Keith Heary's record from back in 2006 still lives on, it must be in its dying days now.

Test Tri 2 Next Saturday

Okay, now listen up!

Test tri 2 is on this Saturday. With such a great start to the series, and some brilliant results, it should make for fascinating stuff. I have three important notes for you:

  • Guide to the Test Tri Series - worth a read, essential if you are new to the club! Please take care to read the maps - a couple of people went off-route at TT1 3 weeks ago! Link to Preview of Test Tri 3.
  • Need a drive-through of the course? We would be delighted to try arrange one before Saturday. Please contact karl@trilogy.ie ASAP, drive-throughs are not possible on the morning as they delay the start of the event.
  • The registration procedure is slightly changed this time around.
    1. On Thursday morning everyone will get a text invitation to either take part or help. Please reply to this text using only the number it was sent from. Please in clude your name also. You can reply anytime up until midnight on Thursday.
    2. After a short while, if your reply was received, you will get a confiming text. Once you have this, you are registered.
    3. On Friday morning, there will be a list of people registered to take part on trilogy.ie. This list will be finalised at 1pm on Friday - if you are not on this list at that time, you will not be taking part.

Trip Away 2012

You might remember the debate at the AGM last December, and the decision to poll members in 2011 about our trip abroad for 2012.

Well the time has now come to get your thoughts on this. There are three ideas on the table, to three very different countries and for three very different races. What is the same for all of them is that the club will subsidise the trip to some extent, that you will be able to bring along a supporter, and that the trip is open to all members (juniors with parents). They all entail 5-6 days away, and we will be looking to start a savings scheme in May 2011 to make them as easy as possible on the pocket.

I am not going to say here what the options are, but you can see them by taking the poll. The committee awaits your response and will get back to you on these pages with details of the trip.

Note: If you don't mind which trip we take, click yes to all three, if nothing takes your interest, click no to all three.

Michael Dalton - Euro medal winner

Fantastic News coming out of Limerick today. Michael Dalton has taken Silver -YES SILVER - at the European Duathlon Championships in the under19 age category. More to come in the form of a race report later, but HUGE congratulations to Michael, all your hard work and training is paying off.

The good news does not end there. Fellow junior Johnathan Robinson also had a great race and took third in his age category, 16-17. In the senior ranks there were solid performances by Liam Byrne, who smashed 40 mins for the first 10k leg, Paul Minahan, who was fasted of the seniors on the day at 2:10 overall and for Anthony McDonald who bravely put behind hi some cramping on the bike to cross the line and officially say he has raced for Ireland.

Exact results and photos to follow this evening.
