Table Quiz - Thursday 13 September

Trilogy are holding a table quiz on Thursday 13 September in O'Gormans, Kilminchy (from 8:30). Anyone who attended last year's event will testify what a great night it was. Just like last year we will also be holding a raffle where we will give away a stackful of spot prizes.

The quiz and raffle are being held to raise funds for the club so that we can invest them in a full set of club gear - cycling, running, swimming and competition gear. We are hoping to launch this kit later this year, and it will be our official gear for the 2008 and 2009 race seasons. We will also be using the funds to subsidise an expanded winter training programme.

I am appealing to all members to recruit a table quiz team comprising yourself plus three guests.

In this way we not only ensure the night is a success, but we also get to introduce the club to new people. The people you bring along are also guaranteed a great night out.

Remember - the people who benefit from this night is you, the members of Trilogy - so scroll down your phone and start calling your table quiz team together. Make it your duty!

Duathlon Number 5 - This Thursday

The fifth test duathlon of 2007 gets underway this Thursday. We are asking you to be on the Heath by 6:45, as we will need to kick this one off a few minutes earlier to ensure everyone finishes by dark.

The course is the same, the timing system is numbered (so please remember your race belt, or bring e7.00 to buy one from Willie).

At this stage in the season ranking points are all-important. Anyone with less than 3 duathlons done can make serious jumps in the ranking - you can see your standing at the following link - http://www.trilogy.ie/RRDua42007.html

Finally, over half of the t-shirts are sold. We will have the full selection on Thursday - if you haven't bought one yet, or if you've only bought one yet (!), then please bring along e16.00 for the best looking tri t-shirt going!

Team Needs Swimmer for half-million fundraiser race

The annual Musgrave SuperValu Triathlon takes place next Saturday 1 September. It is probably the biggest fund-raising event of its type in Ireland and they hope to smash a target of half-a-million euros this year (on top of over €2m raised since 2003).

One team from Borris-in-Ossory hoping to compete finds themselves short of a swimmer. The team has fully paid the €1,200 entry fee, and it seems a shame that their race should go to waste because they don't have a swimmer.

The event is on in Farran, Co. Cork (about ten miles west of Cork). The swim is 800m, and the team have a good cyclist and runner to follow your efforts in the water. They need either a male or female swimmer.

The event proceeds go to two very worthy causes - Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin and the Irish Cancer Society. As an added bonus: Why not continue on to Kenmare and make a night of it as the brave Trilogy crew celebrate the Lost Sheep Ironman finish?

So, if you can make this team's triathlon get in touch ASAP with Karl for further details. As the race fee is already paid, there is no fee to compete in this event.(Further event details - www.msvc-triathlon.com).

G'wan Dublin (triathlon)!

Well done Pawel, Willie, Niall, Taco, Steve, Liam and Niall at the Dublin City Triathlon. Reports are that the course was long, hard and undulating, and coming at the end of a long season just finishing the course merits a great achievement. We hope to have a race report shortly, and we are waiting on final results.

You can see the provisional results on www.dublincitytriathlon.com(note - in particular the run times appear to be with errors, and there are no position details yet; also the website is not loading 100% right).

Sports Drinks Now Available

Some of you have used it before, some of you have seen others using it. B-Fuel (who Elaine used source) is a great-flavoured, well-balanced and high-performing sports drink to be taken before and during exercise or racing. And best-of-all, B-Fuel is all-natural.

Perhaps you have tried Lucozade or Powerade and perhaps you have not been convinced. Well, Willie testifies that B-Fuel is not only the easiest to drink sports drink, but the best for results too. And Willie has had some results this year.

Also available is B-Load a drink to be taken directly after a hard session. It starts your recovery right away, and is essential if you are training hard on two consecutive days, or if you want to avoid post-race injury.

Click on the link to the Shop above, or just click the picture to go there for more info. Prices are €20.00 for 30 servings of B-fuel and €25.00 for 20 servings of B-Load. (We're buying this stuff direct from the manufacturer and passing the price to you - RRP for B-Gain and B-Load is €27 and €32 respectively).

More Heritage Photos

Roel De la Cruz and Anita Phelan managed the busy Browns roundabout junction. And while they did, Roels children (aged 13 and 15) took some excellent shots. Check them out now, they've been added to the HCT Photo Gallery (first nine pictures).

Heritage Challenge 2007 - Race Update

With 2 days to go, the good news is that we have filled the Heritage Challenge 2007. There are over 60 individuals and 6 teams taking part this year, making it slightly bigger than the 2006 event, the largest tri ever held in Laois.

And more good news! While we can't rule out rain, it seems that Saturday is to be mild with sunny spells. With all the bad weather we've been having since July, I reckon we are due a bit of good weather on Saturday!

Important - Race Registration Details

Just a couple of important times to bear in mind. We are opening registration at 7:30, and expect queues to form from about 8:00am onwards. To start the race on time, we need everyone registered by 8:30. Make your race preparation comfortable and avoid queues by arriving as early as possible.

Please remember - while each of you is already entered in the race, you strictly cannot race on Saturday without signing in. You also need to register on the morning so that you are included in out timing system, and to be eligible for winning prizes.

On arrival at the Heritage Hotel, you will sign a declaration and receive your race number and your goodie bag. You will also be able to 'check-in' your runners if you are cycling to Killenard in cycling shoes. A Trilogy Triathlon representative will also be available to answer any of your questions.

After registration, you will have time to set up your bike and gear and to prepare for your swim. We ask you to re-assemble in the the registration area at 8:45am for a race briefing. At this briefing, the Race Director will give you any course updates, outline the timing system, go over safety instructions and race rules and give details for post-race results and refreshments. Attendance is Mandatory for all competitors at this briefing.

PLEASE NOTE: Relay teams must register together, in person and in Portlaoise, and all members must attend the 9am Race Briefing. Any team that has not registered three members will not receive official times and will not be eligible for the relay prize.

Just after the briefing, the race will commence (you will have an opportunity to leave any baggage you want transported to Killenard for after the race). There are three swim heats - 9:30, 9:55 and 10:20. At registration you will be given your start time and lane number. Transition area closes when the briefing starts 9:00am, so it is important that - even if you are in the 9:55 or 10:20 heat - that you are all set up before 9:00am.

There is a 28-page race manual that is yours to download from http://www.trilogy.ie/HCT.html. It includes everything you need to know about the race, including course details, preparing transition, rules, penalties, logistics, etc.

Please remember - up to 30 people are giving up their Saturday morning to make sure you have a safe race, that you don't get lost en route, and that your times and split times are recorded accurately. We ask you to respect their generosity by being on time on Saturday - if registration is delayed, the race is delayed, and these good people end up giving more time than they need to.

To everyone racing on Saturday - "Here's to your safe, competitive, fun and successful race".

Ladies - Guess What I brought home tonight?

The Pink T-shirts. And might I say they look mighty fine!

I will have these with me tomorrow night at the Barrow, and also on Saturday at the Heritage tri. They are a dark pink, ladies cut, ladies sizes, and absolutely certain to sell out. So if you haven't ordered online yet (Shop Link), bring your cash (e16.00) to secure!

So Long ... and Best of Luck to our IM UK athletes

It's the ultimate triathlon achievement, the pinnacle of endurance sports, and the definition of insanity. 3,800m swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km run, all in one day.

Tomorrow four of out clubmates (Sinead, Stephen, Margot, Ken) set sail for the UK where next Saturday they undertake Ironman UK, and become together the first Trilogy members to complete the distance in one day (Willie, Brian and Karl did it in baby steps - over 3 days - in 2005).

Bringing to a conclusion over 10 months of hard training, the team is well prepared and all set to bring home success for Trilogy.

While our official support base "on site" runs to three (Terry, Bronagh and Tiernan), I am sure that everyone in the club will be with them in spirit for each of their 4,000-5,000 handstrokes in the water, their 20,000-odd revolutions on the bike and the 50,000 or so steps they will take to finish the course.

Show 'em your support

If you would like to send them a message of support, text me and I will convey it to them for you, and place your text up here on the news page of the website. You will also be able to track up-to-the-second theprogress of each person during the event - live - via the following link Ironman.com (split times, pace, transition,
and position information).

PSSinead has written a S U P E R B account of her first half-ironman experience in early July. See Half Ireman Report. Here's looking forward to your next successful report.

Results from Blessington - Viva Trilogy!

While Test Tri 5 was going on in Portlaoise, up the road in Blessington (that's Wicklow, Mark), five Trilogy triathletes were doing us all proud.

Pawel Debakowski edged closer to a 60 minute sprint and took 17th place overall. Brendan Cunnane, who is riding high in the test series itself was something of a dark horse, claiming 21st spot - and 9th on the bike.

Keeping up the family tradition was brothers in law Patrick and Cornelius Marshall, both finishing strong - Cornelius almost beating the overall winner on the run leg (finishing second).

And last but by no means least was Mr Ironman UK in waiting, Stephen O'Toole - who won another age group title for Trilogy, 29th overall and first in his AG.

Well done all - Go, Trilogy Go!

Summary results below - full results available from Here

Heritage Challenge - Help Wanted

In order for Saturday's race to be a success, we need about 20 volunteers. The requirement is for:

4 Bag packers (Thurs night, 10:00pm, Willies - 30-40 mins packing goody bags)
10-person crew (Fri night, 7:00pm to 11:00pm - course & transition set-up)
4 Lane counters (08:30 to 10:45)
4 Timers - electronic (08:30 to 12:30)
4 Timers - manual (08:30 to 12:30)
12 course marshals (08:30 to 10:45 / 11:00 / 11:15 / 11:30 / 12:30)

If you are racing, can you help with any of the set-up? Or can you bring a helper with you on race day?

If you are not racing - can you help out on the day (even for some of the time above?).

Right now I am staring at a blank manual sheet - so please text / mail me with your help!

Account Balances Now Updated

A big thank you to all of you who paid up their race
account over the last month or so. The good news is
that the 1,300 Euros owed to us in June is now under
250 Euros.

You can check your new balance now from the front page
of the website (Willie has your password). If you
still owe us a balance, please contact Willie to
settle. If we owe you money, we can start releasing
it on request - just ask!

Wanted: Chatters

We've got 13 people signed up for Chat - and 13 is an
unlucky number! Ideally we want everyone registered -
once we have a mass of people registered, there will
be more interaction, more responses and more chat.

The chat facility is a great way to ask questions,
organise informal training and post up news items.

Please contact karl at trilogy.ie (use @) or just text
your mail address to get ready to Chat.

Changes to Summer Training Schedule

(Well, we lose the term Summer lightly).

Between now and the end of the season, we have 2 test
triathlons, 2 test duathlons, three competitive tris,
the Heritage Challenge, Laois Childrens Duathlon 2 and
out 'Big Day Out' to arrange.

Basically, there is no free weekend between now and
the end of September!

So the committee decided last night to susend weekend
training until Winter, and to really push the weekday
training schedule - leaving you ready to compete at
the weekend!

Mark Downey is going to look after the Heath session
on Tuesdays - and he wants you all there! Willie is
continuing with his good work on the Barrow Swim -
numbers are really up here, and it is the only way to
gain swim legs for racing - so come on down. And Mark
McManus has promised to revitalise Thursdays - get
yourself there for more.

We have maybe 7 weeks left before the nightfall
catches us up, so make the most of the 'Summer' while
we have it.
